Pours dark cola brown with a light-tan head. Very nice barnyard thing going on in the aroma, hops a bit more forward in the nose than I had expected. Very faint smoky char. Flavor fails to live up to the intriguing aroma. Slightly sweet early, fairly minimal funk, turning roasty and exhibiting a subtle smoke before turning to some hop snap toward the close. I wouldn’t have called it a saison by flavor alone. Slightly oily palate. I can’t help but think of a saison-y black IPA.Pretty good beer even if not a brilliant stylistic invention.
Poured from a bottle. Pours a dark black with a small beige head. Hoppy aroma. Initial sweetness which becomes slightly bitter. Bottled in 2012. Don't know if age has affected the flavor.

Bottle shared at a tasting at our place. Thank you Excellent Little Brother for delivering this bottle! Coke-colour and tan ring, peak, pen ink aroma, sweet with bitter undertones, smooth texture, medium body, a little roasty finish. HighWine (959) - Whalezbro, Illinois, USA - SEP 3, 2013
2012 bottle that’s been in my fridge since I bought it, served in a tulip. Charcoal color liquid in the glass with an off white head. Moderately well laced. Faint aroma that is really hard to detect. My only aromatic synapse is dark rye seed. Taste is light but not whimpy. Farmhouse yeast presents itself first with a slightly fruity quality. Next up is charred malt grain and a whisper of smoke. I think the smoke is only present because I know it to be there. The smokiness could easily be mistaken for dark roasted malt. One thing is for sure that this is exceptionally well crafted; the flavors meld together seamlessly, including the hops that provide an aromatic touch. I was expecting a smoky Saison and while this isn’t as bold as I had hoped, it is probably a lot better. delnoche (516) - Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA - SEP 2, 2013
12fl oz bottle poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint. Deep ruby with ample creamy tan head. A lot of hops in the nose during the initial pour with Belgian candy sugar taking over soon after. A very earthy, smoky flavor. Lively carbonation. Long bitter finish, also smoke. A bold interesting brew.

RexTalionis (3775) - FINLAND - AUG 30, 2013
Bottled. Pours dark brown in color with a small tan head. Bit of slightky smoked wood and bacon in aroma. Later on these turn into moro chocolatey notes though. Perhaps some peppery notes too and notes of dark malts as well. Sweetish taste, some burnt rubber and smoked fruits. A bit weird combination, but seems to work quite well though. Fruity and slightly smoky finish. Jow (3998) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 29, 2013
