Pours dark mahogany with a small tan head. Smells both of funk and smoke. Taste is smoky with some funkiness. 0.355l bottle.Dark brown/black body with a nice beige head. Aroma of champagne yeast with lots of chocolate and cherries. Flavor of smoke, champagne and cherries. The finish is smoky and dry. It’s one of the most interesting beers I’ve ever had. It really has the yeasty, dry character of a saison but the extra ingregients make it very complex, yet easy drinking. It’s awesome.

Coffee and woody campfire smoke aromas. Dark, crystal clear mahogany red color with a wispy beige head. Usually that kind of smoky aroma means a Rauchbier which I’ve never developed a taste for, but here the smoke perfectly matches the dark chocolate sweetness and espresso bitterness. You can almost taste charred wood and grain, but it’s somehow held back just enough that it’s delicious and interesting without being overwhelming. There seems to be some earthy, even flowery hop bitterness here, but the charred dryness seems to either mix with or cover this. Interesting hybrid. Saison base with a black IPA overlayer. I'm not sure if I'd say the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, but it's definitely not lesser. Overall, I'm intrigued and think it's good -- can't pigeonhole it or truly compare it to saisons or black IPAs.

Bottle purchased at Stone World Bistro, and consumed in Minnesota (like that even matters). Booze and dark fruit greet the nose. Smells awfully boozy for an ABV <7%. But turns out after first sip that what I detected as booze was actually smoke that is quite obvious now. Surprised I didn’t detect it after opening the bottle since you can smell the smoke from a couple of feet away. Almost fully opaque black body with some faint reddish brown notes when held up to light. Thin light tan head that appears lighter in stark contrast to the pitch black liquid below. Leaves an intriquite lace. Served a little cold (by me) and so after letting it warm a bit the complexity of the flavors emerge and impress. Hops and smoke in the same beer?!? Unfortunately my conscience may force me to share my second bottle with wellestone, for whom those two flavor profiles are 2nd to none. Smokey aroma, but not too strong. Pours dark brown with thin head. Tastes very smooth with a slightly smokey finish.

A - Dark black, hint of brown, finger frothy tan-khaki head. Fades medium.
S - Roasted caramel malts, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, coffee, Belgian yeast, spices, pepper, earthy hops.
T - Roasted caramel and chocolate malts, earthy hops, mild bitterness, Belgian yeast, pepper, other spices, vanilla, and smoke.
M - Medium bodied moderate carbonation. Smooth with a smokey and roasty finish.
D - Nicely balanced dark saison. The smoke is a nice touch.
