Pours a deep brown with a finger and a half of rocky tan head, settles in minutes with some lacing. Aromas of sweet grass/hay, slightly roasted, smoky, and fruity like belgian yeast. Flavor is roasted malt up front with noticeable hops, then sweeter with nutty and almost fruity tones. Hints of herbal notes. Finish is mildly bitter and lingers. Strong carbonation and medium body without a slightly oily mouthfeel. An interesting saison, but not as memorable as some of the other Stone collaborations. 12oz bottle 11/28/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-42° in Tulip. Pours a dar brown almost balck with ruby hues. Aroma of yeast, smoke, chocolate, and hops. Taste of yeast, chocolate, smoke, and hops. Black with a finger (when I got it) of tan head. Good lacing - foamy and milky. Good retention.
Smelled toffee, caramel, chocolate, molasses and light dark sour fruit.
Tasted sour fruit, grape, kiwi, plum, chocolate and toffee with a slightly bitter finish.
Medium body. Oily texture. Fizzy (high) carbonation. Astringent finish.
I was a bit disappointed overall. Lots of flavors but nothing that really stood out.

Bottle from Antioch Fine Wine. Pours dark brown with reddish tints in the bottom, and a tan head leaving some drops of lace. Aroma is a bit bizarre - combination of sweet malts, fruit, spices and salty meat smoke. With peat. Taste has sweet fruits and syrupy sugar, meat and some caramel. Not very saison-y. 12oz bottle I think that I picked up while in NY. Aromas of light smoke, some bready yeast, some light roast and chocolate too. Flavors of chocolate, roast, bread, fair amount of yeast, and light smoke. Body seemed a touch thin. Solid beer like almost everything else in this series. UPDATED: APR 8, 2013 12oz bottle compliments of AndyReynolds - pours deep amber with beige head and decent lacing. Nose is yeast and hay. Flavor adds bread, spices, slight booze, roasty and light smoke. Nothing like the last experience. Odd but yet interesting.
Draft - pours dark amber with tan head and great lacing. Nose is cancelled by andyreynolds’ fruity pumpkin pie soap and the scented candles here at dutch’s. I’m getting smoky vanilla. Confused and muddled, not really getting any ’home base’ feeling of any style. Looks fantastic though. Smells toasted and very slightly smoked malt, belgian yeast, some brown suggar sweetness. Bottle. Pours black with a small fizzy tan head . Nose is roasted malt, light spice,grass, and earth. Flavor shows more of the smoke, notes of cocoa, coffee, and a grassy bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little thin and for the brewers involved, this is slightly underwhelming.
