Im trying the second batch, 10.5% ABV. Smells like anise, black licorice and booze. Not very roasty with some lactose sweetness thrown in at the end. Looks great, pours out nice and thick, shiny pitch black color with no head, leaves slight dark brown lacing on the side of the glass. Tastes surprisingly light with some roast, a little sweetness and a little booze. Slightly oaky, short lived aftertaste. The palate is slick and smooth but should be more dense. Very drinkable for the ABV, but I was a little underwhelmed - Evil Twin makes so many good stouts.

At a tasting, thanks, small creamy muddy brown head, pitch black color, lots of chocolate and chocolate cake in the aroma, hint of smoke and sourdough dark bread, flavor of bittersweet dark chocolate, with smoke and charcoal hints and a cakey maltiness in the back. Nice but not too great.

Dark brown with a small, fingers worth, of dark tan bubbles. Fairly straightforward scents, with roasted malts, dark fruit and hints of alcohol. Full, light oily feel. Lots of heavy dark malts. A touch meaty and a little iodine and soy sauce. Yup, a big stout. No major faults. Longer finish with hint of peat and ash.

Tap at Js. Pours a deep brown to black with a silky beige head that lingers. Big cacao and chocolate milk nose with some dark fruit and coffee as it warms. More cacao nib, roasted malt and yoohoo chocolate drink on the palate. Chewy texture and quite satisfying. Roasted chocolate and bitter cacao on the finish, but also kind of silky smooth. Solid.

650ml bottle @ Alexs. Pours black with a small dark brown head. Nose is a weird fruity note, some grains, and some roasted character. Flavour is again that possibly dark fruit flavour, somewhat grassy grains, and a moderate roasted malt.

Bottle - Molasses and dark sugars. Jet black with a rich brown head. Much like its nose, sweet and dark with some sugars and a long finish with booze. Nice silky mouthfeel. Not as good as I hoped.
