Imperial Stout with Blueberries Added

Amager is an island south of picturesque Copenhagen, mostly notable as the home of the airport, the place you go to get high and the common colloquial name for Amager is Lorteøen (Shit Island). But Amager has much more to offer than you might think. Like these two dedicated brewers from Amager Bryghus, who traveled all the way from Amager to the states to brew a pitch-black and troublesome Imperial Stout infused with the cutest blueberries. It might look shitty, but once you let it sink in you can feel the love within.

Inky black hue under a thin ring of tan foam. Rich deep inky aroma that’s full of boozy cocoa and a sticky fruity syrup backbone. Rich dark flavor that’s black roasty, sticky, boozy, berry fruity, and inky and dark and chewy and full. Pretty robust and semisweet and berry’d.

(bottle) clear, bright, very dark brown colour with a small brown head; thick palate; aroma of dried fruit, intense, balanced flavour, well hidden alcohol, long light bitter finish

Draft... This beer rocks!... Pours tar-black with a small, fleeting, mushroom-colored head. The aroma features leather, fudge and a light note of dark berries. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor features deeply roasted malts, semi-sweet dark mocha and blueberries. Lengthy, roasty, fruity finish. A world-class beer right here!

Nice woody, barrel aged, and dark fruit scent. Boozy, but not overly so. Slightly mossy, some fruits, and I would never had thought blueberry, but fruits. Palette is a bit medium not thick. Bottle.

Hop and Hound, Bothell. Heavy mocha head, heavy syrupy black body. Lovely thick sip, alcohol with a smooth blueberry fruity undertone. Lovely flavor, a unique sweetness. A slight sweet wine element. Heavy and cool. Fruity, kind of sweet Stout. Nice but lacking some depth and richness. Love the blueberry.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a deep dark brown color close to black. Finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipates fairly quick. No lacing. The aroma starts with a stellar balance between the sweet blueberries to milk chocolate. Smooth. Underscored by a dry roasty coffee bean. The flavor brings it together nicely. Added vanilla slides in. Deep and robust, the aftertaste is quick portioning off bits of dried cocoa bean to the aftertaste and following through on the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body leaning to the sipping sort of side. Milky/creamy sort of wet quality rounds out the feel really nicely. Overall, this was an extremely nice imperial stout that I would love to have again.

Bottle. Deep black pour with almost no head. The blue berries are well balanced but overall it can come off as a little cloying.

Big bottle from Bethesda Food and Beverage. Nice dark brown body with tan head. Nose is malts, chocolate and floral notes. Taste similar of malts, chocolate and fruits. Nice kick to it. High on the ABV.
