Large beautiful and impressive light brown foam. I love Jeppe ’s (master brewer) own description of this beer: ’Unlikely viscous, seductive dark and smoking good. Yes a real heartbreaker. We recommend that only really trained beerchamps can take on this fiendishly addictive and overwhelming good smoked stout. Beware, many experience a slight placebo effect if swallowed’.
Am I a well-trained beerchamp? I do not know, for it is not a term I have used on myself. Otherwise, I fully agree with the description. It is viscous and seductive and really smoked. It is a Nils Oscar Rökporter and a Aecht Schlenkerla at the same time, namely with a good deal of smoked malt. A little to the cool side, where you almost feel what it must feel like to lick the skin from a smoked eel. Overwhelming good, it is also because there is left room for coffee flavor and dark bitter chocolate. Addictive I would also like to join. Especially on a cold autumn or winter evening. It brings namely warmth and comfort throughout the body, and it is certainly addictive in the long term. The placebo effect is immediately worse to relate to, for is it not something that, for example. ill patients may feel themselves healthy just by the belief that the doctor prescribed calcium tablets is a newly developed wonderful medicine? If Jeppe therefore believe that beer drinkers can be tricked into thinking that Ashtray Heart is a profound delicate smoked stout, which in reality is brewed from coincidences, then he is mistaken. I can taste that this is really good and well-brewed craft beer. So maybe I’m actually a well-trained beer champ! shawndjkidd (12) - CANADA - DEC 23, 2015
Love the ashtray heart... from the first sip to the last. The smokey character adds a lot of depth to this winter warmer. colui72 (1029) - HONG KONG - AUG 29, 2015
Straight from the fireplace! Everything of a perfect porter: black appearance, nearly no head; strong aroma of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate. Taste is very complex: full coffee and chocolate as from nose, roasted malts and a heavy (in the positive way) smoky feeling. Creamy and sticky on lips, a long lasting malty bitterness in the mouth. Booze hidden. Bomb! mkel07 (5980) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 24, 2014
330ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique 240614. Pours a thick syrupy black with a crest of brown foam. Great smoke aroma and flavour. Kita (2151) - Koper, SLOVENIA - MAR 2, 2015
Bottle, 0.33l. Pours pitch black with large deep brown soapy head and fair lacing. Aroma of smoked sausage, leather, coffee and caramel. Taste starts with moderate sweet and rich roasted malt, follows heavy smoky with notes of chocolate and licorice, mouthfeel is warming alcoholic, while finish is moderate bitter. Full body, creamy texture and fizzy carbonation in palate. Holy smoke, what an evil brew...

This beer is wonderfully complex. It has a rich and sweet taste which is followed by a perfectly balanced smoky aftertaste. Soothing and stimulating! Beachmaster (558) - Oklahoma, USA - JUL 11, 2015
Bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep mahogany, with a dense brown head that lasts. Not much lacing. Nose is dark roast malt, smoke, and cocoa. Taste is rich and complex, with notes of cocoa and dark malt, topped with a nice smoke finish. Excellent. Temptation (257) - - MAR 20, 2013
Brilliant pitch black color, brown, dense and lasting head, very nice aspect. Pours like petroleum, dense, oily, brilliant. Aromas to roasted malt, tobacco, chocolate cake, sweet espresso over a smoky base. Taste of black liquorice, leather, smoke, liquor and basically sweet, low hopped. Great texture and body. Wow, such a beer! onceblind (9681) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 7, 2015
Inky black pour with a thin, rocky, yet fast-dissipating dark khaki head. The nose is full of smokey tones as the name would imply, perhaps also a bit of tobacco if I’m not mistaken, and a whiff of greasy sausage. Full and delightful flavor of smokey sausage meat, a little roasted dark cocoa lending a bit of sweetness, then finishing with more sausage notes. Very pleasantly smokey without being charred. Amazing. koshack (1812) - Gdañsk, POLAND - JUL 27, 2015
Bardzo obfita, brązowa piana. Drobna, ale szybko przechodzi w duże pęcherze. Dziurawi się i opada. Został kożuszek na powierzchni. Nie zostawiła śladów na szkle.
W aromacie bardzo wyraźna wędzoność. Trochę ciemnych słodów.
Wyczuwalne nuty drewniane, dębowe, garbnikowe.
Pachnie wytrawnie, słodycz ledwie majaczy w tle.
W smaku więcej słodyczy, ale nadal niezbyt dużo.
Wyraźne nuty porterowe. Wędzoność na wysokim poziomie.
Trochę kwaśnych nut ciemnych słodów, plus słodowa kontra. Całość dobrze zgrana.
Spora goryczka, chociaż jest krótka. Częściowo od ciemnych słodów, częściowo od chmielu.
Alkohol dobrze zamaskowany, przyjemnie grzeje w ustach.
W miarę picia pojawiają się nuty gorzkiej czekolady.
