Dark red-amber color, cloudy; the head reduces quickly. Perfumy malt aroma, sweet, almost like a Barley Wine, but showing signs of age. Nice barley flavor, sweet, again, similar to a Barley Wine, it has a nice fruity character, and I wouldn’t think of wine barrel if I didn’t know; the bitterness is fading, but this leaves room for the malt and fruity flavors.
Bottle from bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thick attractive beige head and a musty toffee aroma. There is a full-bodied dark malt flavor with a slightly fruity wine-like finish and a warm alcohol trail. corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 14, 2015
Pours a dark ruby red color with plum edges and a one finger, off-white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Splotchy lacing left behind.
Sweet vinous aroma with a strong grape-like presence likely resulting from the combination of piney/citrusy hops, sweet malt and red wine barrel. Subtle dry oak with a very prominent vinous grape/red wine flavor but still has some sweet malt and a surprising hop presence. Resinous and piney with tropical and citrus fruit notes along with caramel, biscuit, toffee, grape, plum and currant. Smells really good.
Medium bodies and really complex with nice balance of bitter, earthy hops, tropical fruit, sweet malt, dry oak and vinous dark fruit notes. Aggressively hoppy wih resinous pine needle and grass countered by sweet citrus grapefruit and pineapple. Sweet malt backbone with hints of caramel, toffee and a nice barrel presence giving off hints of subtle toasted oak and a strong vinous red wine character. Lots of grape, dark cherry, plum, raisin and currant. Really well balanced with great barrel flavor but you can still tell it’s an IPA. Goes down way to smooth for 10.5. Abv perfectly masked. Bottle - Vintage 2013 - Apricot, touch of boozy heat and some oxidation. Cloudy copper with a rich off white head. Caramel, light stone fruit and a light soft sweetness round this out. Starting to get some Barleywine notes and richness. Still nice for the age. bigguns22 (800) - Maryland, USA - JUL 10, 2015

Bottled. Hazy orange colour, small white head. Aroma is mild coffee, grass, herbs, toffee and some wood. Also a slight bit of alcohol and fruits to it. Flavour is fruity, syrupy, toffeeish, quite nice bitterness along with some sweet malts and mild alcohol. slowrunner77 (12447) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 24, 2014
"Takes on a reddish hue, looking a lot like a barley wine. Tropical hops still shine, and the barrel softens this beer up soooo much. Fruity slightly Sweet and still finishing bitter. Better even than the gold cap." weaselkenievil (1608) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAY 7, 2014
Bottle on my birthday last year, bought from Brewtque, Macclesfield. Poured an amber brown with a decent beige head. Aroma of malts, wood, red wine vinegar, some citrus. Flavour has a hint of the wood and wine, malty, apples. Different but didn’t really rave about it. dreamflower (791) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 12, 2014
Bottle shared with northropfrye. My favourite thing about this beer is the aroma. Smells like roasted coffee however it does not taste like that. Part of me appreciates the vinous quality but part of me does not. Head is a little pink. northropfrye (3659) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 12, 2014
Reddish brown body with foamy rose-coloured head and nice lacing. Sweet and tart marly aroma. Fruity. Taste is sweet like a well balanced fruit beer with a touch of bitterness from the hops. Really nice and unique ale.
