Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Bottle from Uba ja Humal. BB... there is a stamp but I can’t understand what it means. Pours darkish golden/amber with beige head. Aroma of rather boring caramelly malts, toffee... The usual. Taste likewise; caramelly sweet with rather harsh bitterness in finish. Body moderately medium, carbonation modest. Not bad at all but overall pretty random, needs more aging probably. Too bad the stupid copywriters are so full of shit. Minus one for the bullcrap.

Bottle at Banksia. Clear dark red with a light brown head. Aroma medium malty (caramel, light sour wild berries). Flavor medium sweet, light sour and bitter, some alcohol. Medium+ body.

Bottle share. seeing the rave reviews and not getting it. Actually poured my glass out. Dark, bitter pit fruit, prune juice. Not recalling a barley wine at all. Tried hard to find some redeeming qualities, and then I gave up.

12oz bottle pours out a rusty copper topped with a sand head. Nose is heavy malts and plenty of booze. Taste is malty booze metallic and some bitter notes.

Pours dark red with light head. Aroma is soft, caramel, light sourness sweetness, wild berries, toffee, apple. Taste is bitter, less berries, light sourish, currant, bitter juice, rowan, some alcohol. Quite good!

maledictum (796) - Pyongyang, NORTH KOREA - JUN 26, 2016
Deep golden hazy colour with a small white head. Fruity sweet aroma with some alcohol. Good mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet and fruity with a good hoppiness, caramel and malt.

BeerRenter76 (1035) - Texas, USA - JUN 22, 2016
Aroma is rich and thick with caramel, sweet malt, raisin and a faint hint of leather. Body has a reddish hue with plenty of yeast floaters with a slightly off white cap. Flavor is like the aroma, palate isn’t that thick for the style. Overall it’s not too bad..

Maris (1587) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUN 17, 2016
From a 355ml bottle on 17/6/2016. Pours a murky amber with a small head. The nose is malty, with toffee and caramel, followed by some light fruity, hoppy notes. It explodes with flavour - sweet caramel, toffee, butterscotch, brown sugar and honey, as well as sweet and bitter citrus fruit (mandarin and grapefruit). Has a big malt presence but is also a very hoppy bugger, with the bitterness lingering, resiny and grapefruity. There is touch of booze at the back to you you a nice warm feeling. The texture is syrupy and the carbonation soft. This is a truly splendid barley wine - big, bold and flavour packed, and at the same time balanced and cohesive. Yet another absolute cracker from Evil Twin.

toscanoigor (297) - Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL - JUN 15, 2016

Marduk (8401) - Reval, ESTONIA - JUN 4, 2016
330ml bottle. Hazy dark amber color. Medium size, off-white beige head, stays. Sweet, caramel, raisins in aroma. Sweet, roast, alcohol, malty, fruity, citrus in taste. Drinkable, but also quite boring. Hmmm...
