“When I copied the famous Even More Jesus, I had to ask myself as an artist, why am I doing this? I didn’t honestly know. It was just an instinct about beer as pure form… in a sense this stout is like a metaphor for freedom - the sum of all the beauty that surrounds me and my perfect contemporary existence.”

Pours black, dense with a large brown head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet dark malts and molasses, with some fruity notes. Tastes is roasted malts, quite sweet, chocolate, licorice, strong booze, bitter hops appear and linger in the end. Full bodied, creamy, thick feel, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall a great winter ale!

Aus der Flasche 2015-09 getrunken. Perfektes Imperial Stout ohne Schnörkel aber traumhaften Balance was Bitterkeit und Alkoholgehalt angeht, Dazu kommt eine schöne Cremigkeit. Wow!

Aroma of bitter coffee, dark roasted malts and booze. Pours black with a tiny beige head that leaves lacing on the glass. The taste is sweet and burnt. Coffee, malts, brown sugar. Sticky mouthfeel and full thick body.

Great bottled stout rolling in at 12%, what can you say. Heavy, deep. Not a lot of taste of course, but getting through a bottle of this on a night can last you the ’whole night’. Very decent out of bottle stout. Great job for what it is. I like a bit more of different tastes like oaks, chocolates etc in my stouts. It was just okay on the palate etc. Highly recommend if you can get it a little cheaper. Hardly anyone has figured out how to sell a stout correctly vs a tap, so don’t feel bad. Got a tad old through a four pack, which I didn’t finish. Appreciated that ABV for relaxation and party.

(Backlog 22-01-2016)

Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, berries, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee.

Opaque black beer with a slight beige head.

Starts heavy sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, berries, chocolate and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Great amount of roasted malts for how very sweet this beer is. Even some dark fruit and berries at the start. Perfect appearance and a great palate as well.

Pours dark brown with minimal beige head. Aroma is date, caramel, toast, nuts, blueberry, some flower, some earth, liquorice. Medium sweet, strong bitter, medium sour. Oily texture, medium body, soft carbonation, somewhat astringent, alcoholic finish. Not quite there.

Bottle. Boozy and lightly oily texture. Good body, yet still ’digestible’. I really enjoyed this one, an imperial stout that doesn’t over do the roast, and despite the high alcohol is easy to sip. Hop wins over malt here, but remains within balance.

12-ounce bottle pours pitch black with thick dark-tan creamy head. Aroma is hard to pin down, but detect: raisins, carmelized brown sugar, cocoa. Flavor is an immediate "wow" with so much going on; I pick up on the following: ashes (but in a good way), prunes, figs, dates, molasses, espresso, bakers’ chocolate. Mouthfeel: rich, silky with a smooth alcohol warmingness from the 12 percent ABV. It’s an imperial stout on the hoppy side, which I like. There’s a lingering prickliness on the tongue from the bitterness.
