Evil Twin’s bigger beers are a treat I love to sample when I don’t have to spring for a full bomber. This world class version makes it evident that they know their stuff as well as anyone. I look forward to the next time I stumble across a tap handle in a local bar.
Aroma / Appearance - A dense black fluid base crawls along the edges of the glass. Sticky legs trap the mocha head before merging into an oily heart. Oak, chocolate, coffee, and bitter raspberries drive home the thickness of this potent profile. The barrel aging does not go too far; you can still pick up enough of the base beer to get a sense of what it would be like in comparison.
Flavor / Palate - Raspberry filled donuts, warm coffee, and oak meld into the perfect morning after breakfast. If you took a jelly donut and drowned it fruit filling and chocolate I imagine it would taste something like this. Decadent and rich the profile lends itself well to a nightcap. In a very crowded style with many peers it manages to carve out its own little niche.
Bourbon covers up some of the heat and fake sweetness present in the most recent batches of iBB. Vanilla, coffee, smoother too - some light bitter roast. Not in the 100th percentile for me, but quite nice. AdmiralVernon (1200) - SWEDEN - OCT 27, 2016
A: Jet black with a thin brown lacing N: Bourbon, vanilla, oak, milk chocolate T: Toffee, chocolate, coffee O: Nice barrels and sweetness to it. DCLawyer (2932) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - OCT 18, 2016
Bomber->snifter. Deep brown with faint lite brown head. A: rich chocolate, vanilla, almonds, toffee. Deep. T: chocolate malt, vanilla, booze, bitter roast, almond. Nailed it. Really nice, right in my wheelhouse. Alengrin (5902) - BELGIUM - OCT 13, 2016
At Hopishop. Lacing, moussy, pale beige head over a black beer with burgundy edges. Aroma of chocolate sauce, gravy, bourbon, coffee grounds, beef broth, wet wood, porcini, whisky, elderberry syrup, leather. Concentrated candied sweetness on the tip of the tongue, candied fig, some brambleberry sourishness and the expected layer of beefy umami for balance, softish carbo, thick oily, viscous mouthfeel; deep dark malt core, nuts, bitter chocolate, toffee, toast, eventually roasted coffee bitterness pairing with spicy hops, drying woodiness and a late but potent dosis of bourbon-like alcohol. Excellent and not as extreme as some other Evil Twin ales, which probably did this beer good.

Bomber sampled @ HopisHop B.U.M.B. 2016. Oily black with no head. Nose is insanely big on bourbon, overly heavy on booze, very hot, thick molasses, syrup, chocolate syrup, thick sugar. Taste is hot, very heavy molasses & bourbon, sugar, pure syrup, chocolate syrup, sugar, dark fruit syrup,... boozy. Body is thick molasses & bourbon. Good beer, very nice even but a bit too hot & heavy on bourbon, bit more balance would have made it even better. Improved as it got warmer. madsberg (11799) - Søborg, DENMARK - OCT 3, 2016

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2017 Head to head with regular version: pours black, with stable tan half finger brown head, which slowly transforms itself to a ring around the glass. Aroma: rich, intense dark malts aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, cocoa powder, molasses, vanilla, hint of bourbon. Flavor: intense coffee notes, supported with dark chocolate, molasses, licorice, cantuccini, cacao nibs, vanilla, gentle bourbon note, port wine, and dark fruits in the background. Alcohol note is very well hidden, malt backbone, bourbon and hop bitterness are very well balanced. Finish is dry, slightly thick. Body is full, texture is super smooth, carbonation is low. Very good imperial stout, but still preffer regular version. AirForceHops (8037) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 2, 2016
Purchased this 22 ounce bottle on one 1 October 2014. (Because I marked it myself) Stored proper. Pitch black with very thin tan head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is slightly charred grain, mild bourbon, dark chocolate. MrOrla (3693) - Odense C, DENMARK - SEP 2, 2016
Flavor doesn’t show any signs oxidation, bourbon is very mellow but does show itself in the finish. Probably maybe a tad past its prime but still really smooth for the overall flavor. Bourbon is nice. Body is fuller with a fullness that I expect in the style.
Bottle himmeriget. Pours pitch black with a brown. Aroma of deep choco, soy, vanilla, oak, cocoa nibs, scents of coconut, fudgey, cake alike. Taste is rather sweet, vanilla heavy. Bourbon, slick. Waow
