Appearance: Deep black brown. Finger of tan bubbles. Nose: Deeply roasted malt notes, a touch nutty. Definite bourbon barrel qualities of oak, vanilla and booze. Taste: Dark chocolate, coffee and a very definite mineral aspect, limestone if I’m not mistaken. Bourbon barrel aspects mid to finish. Body: Full and soft. Parting thoughts: A big, strong, and complex imperial. Quite good. Sort of paled in comparison to the others I was sampling.

Bottled. Pours pitch black, tan head. Aroma is bourbon, biscotti, vanilla, toffee, coconut, dark fruit, marshmallow, chocolate. Flavor is bourbon, chocolate, marshmallow, dark fruit, biscotti a bit. Wow, that’s good. Bourbon heavy. Excellent.

Sample at Lizardville Westerville during the Evil Twin Beer and Doughnuts Night event on 05/16/2017. Brown-black color with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, malt and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt, vanilla and a bit of dark fruit. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Large shared bottle. Smells very good and tastes even better, with a clear but not overdone contribution from the bourbon barrel aging, good balance and complexity. Smooth, full body.
