The Roman Empire had a certain je ne sais quoi festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen thats still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Pint Can 4pk from Whole Foods. Never had EvilTwin before, so this is a wonderful first impression. Dark burgundy, near black pour, head dissipates quickly. Smell big vanilla, big caramel, malt, dark chocolate, bit of date/raisin, splash of citrus/orange. Taste caramel, slight licorice, blackcurrant, some bready/malty/chocolatey goodness. Reminds me a lot of Tuaca liqueur. Very nice stuff!

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Pours almost complete black. Little brown foam. Aroma is strong chocolate, sweets and cocoa. Some coffee, almost nothing else. Body is not as heavy as expected, rather dark cocoa than milk chocolate. Palate lingers with all the good stuff. Very, very nice!

Can oddly enough picked up in Columbia, SC if I remember correctly; didnt drink it there because the raspberry umami version was on tap! Pour dark brown with a huge brown head. The aroma is coffee, vanilla, and marzipan with a boozy finish. Flavor is a little coffee, dark malt, baking chocolate and roasted nuts. The ABV is well hidden. Nice.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2016 Big bottle at home. Pitch black, beige foamy head. Sweet cookie, caramel, butterscotch, mocha, coffee, maple syrupy, dried fruits, lightly bitter in the finish, alcohol is well hidden. Lingering syrupy sweet finish. Medium-high carbonation, good body, soft and packing mouthfeel.

Pitch black, oily, with a small brown coffee-like head. Strong aroma of coffee, roasted malts, plums and chocolate. Taste is same as complex, quite sweet, with dominant coffee, dark chocolate, plums. Quite bready in the aftertaste (guess where the biscotti ends up), not too boozy, besides the 11.5% ABV, full body, low bitterness and perfect low carbonation. Very tasty, I want more!

pours pitch black with nice creamy 2 inch head. aromas of chocolate, heavily roasted malts, french pressed coffee, and a bit of alcohol. taste is on the sweeter side with a warming lingering mouthfeel. flavors of plum, dark chocolate, coffee, and roastiness. drinks very easily given its hefty ABV. great post-dinner winter sipper.

Rated on old beer app. Aroma is pleasantly sweet but no real biscotti taste. Liked well enough but not great. Bottle.

Brilliant aroma. Perfectly laced coffee smell with roasted malts as well as some caramel, alcohol, and wood notes. Color is totally opaque dark black; foam is dense, really tanned. Really bitter, in mouth and in the finish. Coffee grants an extra dose of bitterness, that could have just been fine if it didnt grant a really dry finish. Overall, flavor is consistent, and pretty similar to the aroma. Alcohol and dark fruit notes are present. Full body, thick and oily texture, low carbonation, bitter and long finish. Overall, a quite remarkable beer.
