The Roman Empire had a certain “je ne sais quoi” festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen – that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient – keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Draft at Vintner. Black colored pour with a tan head on it. Smell is fruity, dark chocolate, somewhat like raspberries in it? No hops or alcohol noted. Taste is very thick and full, tons of chocolate and pretty sweet. Not sure if the sweetness comes from the higher ABV or just the raspberry flavors I got from it... Pretty good beer, but it is basically dessert in a glass.

A black beer, a head is dense, medium and brown. Aroma has dark fruitness and sweetness of raisins, coffee, some chocolate and roastiness. Taste is quite sweet, chocolate, coffee, roastiness, dark and dried fruitness. Drying in the end. Surprisingly, only medium bodied. Different than normal IS, there is a strong dried fruitness.

Can, 11C. Almost black with a tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma is crude and boozy, but there's stout under there too: _it_ seems roasty and as though it might have some punch. Over the top is a smell like those syrups chain coffee places offer to ruin your drink - burnt nuts, sugar, fake vanilla. Pretty light bodied considering. Lowish carbonation. Neither the booze nor the syrupy elements stick out as much as expected - it's a smooth and not particularly compelling stout. The finish is tidy in that it dries out a little and there's just a bit of overt bitterness. As it warms the sweetness threatens to get out of hand but the bitterness is enough to keep it in check. Yeah, nah.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2017 4 oz snifter pour at Meridian Pint. Confession time: I grow old and my nose is even older. Too many subtleties are lost on this sniffer. That said, I had a hard time taking my nose out of the snifter on this one. Heavenly hints of coffee, chocolate and booze. Mouthfeel is smooth, unctuous even. Taste follows the nose at a respectful distance. I don't want to drink a lot of this, just a little for a very long time.

Can at au trappiste, Bern. Rich with a great roasted malt profile. Good bitterness. Nicely drinkable, slightly briny, full bodied and deeply enjoyable. Hints of vanilla sneaking in.

A 22 fl. oz. bomber with no clear bottled on or best before date. Poured into a snifter. It was a dark dark brown to black in colour with pretty much no head and only sparse to no lacing. Aromas of toasted marshmallow, chocolate, coffee, vanilla with a light almond nuttiness and hints of caramel. Tastes of roasted dark malt sweetness, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. There is a hint of cherry and nuts on the finish. Creamy, thinner than expected at medium to full bodied with low carbonation and nice light alcohol warming. Overall a very nice sipper with great aromas and flavours.

Puszka, 1 pinta. Barwa brązowo - czarna. Aromaty: wanilia, marcepan, czekolada mleczna, kawa zbożowa.

Can, 1 pnt. Color: black to brown. Aroma: vanilla, almonds, marzipan, milk chocolate, roasted coffee, roasted malts. Same with taste. It is mostly sweet, with well balanced bitterness. A bit watery, as for its parameters, and the alcohol gets on top of it. Too high carbonation, I would say you should wait a bit after opening. Overall it is still great beer, supreme with taste and aroma.

As with most imperials, it is smooth all the way through. It is a bit sweeter than my preference but not enough to distract from the coffee overtone. The best part of this brew is the aftertaste, quite wonderful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
