Small, fast gone white head, leaving some lace over very well-carbonated, veiled orange beer. Weeds, and slops... Some fruitwaste. Not very inviting... Citrus, resiny US hops, slightly fruity. Citruspeel retronasal, and floral character. In any case, lightyears better than the nose. Spritzy carbonation; slick/hopoily; medium bodied. Just don’t insert your nose in the glass. Maybe it goes well with the aromas from lichen?

Pale ale which is apparently made for the famed Michelin-starred restaurant Noma in Copenhagen, where the beer list only contains beers from the many craft breweries which are now active all over Scandinavia. Named after the plant used in this beer: Oxalis acetosella, wood sorrel in english, a small woodlands plant with white flowers and sour tasting leaves. I’m curious if I can find any of this in this ale. Regularly shaped, medium thick, snow white head over an orange blonde beer with good fizz and some dead yeast bits already floating around here and there - clearly the bottle is past its prime (though the best before date is still two months away). Aroma consists of impressions of orange peel, cooked rhubarb, fried eggs, cooked beetroot or turnips, apple sauce, wormwood, vanilla, moss, weeds (crushed nettles or cooking spinach - but almost certainly the actual wood sorrel!), honey; took me a while to get used to it. Taste begins crisp and fruity, some exotic fruit sweetness (mango, persimmon), strongish carbonation, toasted and strongly nutty maltiness in the middle, yeasty spiciness accompanying it all and building the bridge to a long, drying, peppery, earthy and floral hop bitterness, very appetizing, nearly tonic water-like, with retronasally a very subtle hint of that wood sorrel again. Glad I found the herb used in this one, but it has more business in the nose than in the actual taste - which in this case is probably a good thing. It lends this APA a somewhat unusual effect, but I can imagine this goes well with the dishes composed of natural ingredients which are served at Noma. In all, quite interesting, but already a bit ’worn out’ when I tasted it, I bet this is far better in young condition. gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - FEB 16, 2015
330 ml bottle at home. Pours clear golden wit a tiny white head. Aroma of tangerine and orange, mixed with a faint herbal minty touch, iron. Light body, bitter, low on carbonation, semi dry finish. Bottled, 330ml from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Orange amber with white head. There is a delicious hoppy aroma on opening and this is followed into the first draft of beer, sweetish orange, tangerine notes, good depth, lasting palate. It dries later through the beer with a light resinous character. Not sure what the Wood Sorrell brings to it. A very decent beer for me.

Bottle 33cl, a clear copper beer with medium head. Nose is on aromatic hops and honey. Aroma is sweet with caramel notes, resin hops, finish is quite bitter with nice caramel notes and pine, malty side comes more with the time, pleasant even if not exceptional. In short: oxalis beer...
Pours hazy golden with nice white head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Sweet, spicy aroma. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture.Taste is malty, cereal, sweet, some honey character. Ends a bit dry. Enjoyable.
33 cL bottle at home. Pours hazy orange with a small to medium off-white head. Aroma has quite some caramel, hops, pine and a bit herbal as well. Keg Sheffield tap. Golden good white head lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel orange. Taste is same good pine nice long bitter finish. Nice body slight carbonation.
