3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Pours opaque black cola brown with good light tan head and lace. Average hop aromas, malt overshadowed by a big vanilla bean scent, come oaky, choc, coffee, roasty burnt toffee notes are there. Earthen, yeast aromas are there. Body a touch thinner than expected, the roasty notes so acrid, gives the illusion of thinning. Also yeast character prominent. the vanilla continuing through over the top of the malt backbone. A touch boozy also, finishes moderately bitter, acrid, light-moderately sweet. The acrid roastiness and sweetness lingering on.
Dark brown coloured body with a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt, burnt coffee, pit fruits, caramel and a dash of grain and earth - not too much pleasant here, though. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with a bunch of burnt notes, some earth, caramelised sugars, grain and a bit of anise flavours; Nothing too strong and too enjoyable, and definitely nothing complex here. Aftertaste shows a bit of alcohol warmth, a very thin malt finish (no body here), a little anise and licorice and a dash of yeast and bread funk at the end. Overall, a decent, if that, Imperial Stout with no complexity, no depth and most importantly - no body. Definitely not worth grabbing and if you do have it, it's not worth keeping space in your cellar for. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street NorthWest) on 25-May-2015 just after my second daughter was born, sampled about two and a half years later on 18-November-2017 after my son was born, and the aging of this didn't seem to help at all, but at least the alcohol burn wasn't there, but there wasn't much of anything, especially body leftover. Kicsi, tartós, barna hab, feketébe hajló sötétbarna szín. Csokis, kakaós,kávés, aszalt szilvás, aszalt meggyes illat. Csokis, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös ízvilág, lecsengéskor egyre erősödő kávés aromával. Testes, enyhén szénsavas, erősen keserű. Nagyon finom, de utóízében sok a keserű.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2017 12 fl oz bottle from 2015 - hopefully it cellars well! This stout is a deep opaque black tone with a thin layer of tan froth. Aromas are a mix of coffee and chocolates and roasted malts. Taste is dark chocolate mixed with espresso coffee, some caramel, and above all sweet milky smoothness. This stout feels thick enough to chew and is truly a meal in a bottle, with neverending silkiness and smoothness. Carbonation is slightly above average which gives a bit too much buzz and may be a bit distracting from the underlying richness of the flavours. Bottle from Westhill service station. Pours black with a thin brown head that fades. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, caramel, demerara sugar and slight vanilla. Flavour is bitter espresso, fruit and nut chocolate bar and slight vanilla again. Lovely roasty linger. thedm (6319) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 27, 2017
This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a head of foamy finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind no visible carbonation opaque dark black brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The nice aroma was vinous brown malt and dark malt. The thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong dark malt aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of molasses vanilla and vinous. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again. MoritzF (10095) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - APR 11, 2017
(bottle from 2010) Pitch black coloured hue with a beige and firm foamy layer. Mildly roasted malty aroma with loads of chocolate, hints of liquorice, coconut and vanilla, also some traces of acidity/tartness in the background, accompanied by notes of candied and dried berries. Moderately sweet and rounded bitter flavour, quite full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Moderately roasted malty base, chocolate-laden taste with vanilla and almost vinous dried fruity notes; lingering roasty and vinous fruity finish with present notes of chocolate and a tinge of booze. Very well-done. 30.IX.16
