Evil Twin Torst Back Room - Port Barrel Aged Barley Wine. -- Aroma: Hm. Not a lot to recommend here. Not much aroma, and the aroma’s more of malt than anything else, some rum and raisin in the nose. 4/10. -- Appearance: Pours very pretty thick, syrupy brown-black with almost no head. 4/5. -- Taste: Port, rum, lots and lots of alcohol present in the flavor. Fruitiness that’s pleasant, from the grapes. Long cocoa and coffee finish, along with the port. 8/10. -- Palate: Syrupy thick and smooth, with a gentle astringency and long, pleasant finish. Alcohol level diminishes from the pleasure of the finish, I think. 4/5. -- Overall: This is a really nice experiment, and a great alternative for those days you want a good beer but also want something experimental and different. As an experiment, this beer is a success. A shame about the lack of good nose, but everything else about this beer is going on well. I wouldn’t want this but a few times a year, but I think when I do I’ll appreciate it deeply. 15/20.

Rating #6000. 11.2 oz. bottle, pours a dark mahogany with a small white beige head. Aroma brings out lots of sweet wine (port), followed by caramel and candied sugar - quite complex and decadent. Flavour is decadent and complex, with treacle toffee, just enough port barrels, and a touch of candied sugar. Wow, this is rich and elegant. One of Evil Twin’s best. This is marvellous.

Bottle. Dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of dried fruit, vanilla, toasted malt, alcohol. Taste of dark chocolate, oak, raisins and fruity yeast. Thick round body with an aftertaste of bourbon and toffee. Quite good!

Dark brown pour with reddish tinge and very small beige head. Aroma of malts, molasses, caramel, slight hops and port. Taste of malts, caramel, toffee, red fruit, raisin, slight hops and a strong port presence. Full bodied, medium carbonation, well balanced. Pleasure to drink.

Bottle. Very dark brown pour-- the colour of molasses (but not the consistency, thankfully), with a smallish brown head. Aroma is intensely malty and sweet. Flavours of raisin pie, soy sauce, treacle, and corky wood. Mouthfeel is soft and rounded, very full bodied. Slightly salty finish. A very pleasant sipper, and very different from Front Room.

average frothy light brown head. fair lacing. fully diminishing. flat thick dark reddish-brown body. aroma: dark chocolate, mild coffee, raisin, plum, ruby port wine, alcohol. if and ff: heavy sweet moderate bitter; long duration. palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic heavy alcoholic finish.

Danky brighter red wood, like drop of milk poured in, lighter amber glint. Sticky caramel head. Very white sprit boozy finish, not as mettalicy. Big rusty booz, big raisny and hot grilled malt. Winks of rye, steely wool and terse cooling booze. This is a barely wine that doesn’t fuck about.

Bottle (330 ml). From kbudd19, thanks! Dark reddish brown with a small beige head and no lacing. Aroma is of raisins, buckwheat (?), Port/wine notes, plums, dried fruits, molasses, sweetness notes and light alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet with dried fruits, buckwheat (?), plums, raisins, molasses, Port/wine notes (less than in the aroma) and a nice warming finish. Medium to full body. Low carbonation. Sirupy mouthfeel. Good English Barley Wine. Maybe a tad sweet, but the balance is still good. Quite complex, though I would love the Port to be more present.

Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is semi dry with light fine carbonation. Rich malt, sweetish. Marmite. Dark toffee, touch of spice. Jammy red berry fruits underneath. Dry finish. Tasty but the marmite is getting in the way of this being a better beer.
