Bottle - Sweet vinous notes, with some red fruit which is a bit ’new’ and lots of raw barrel notes. The end of the nose does provide some of the roast malts. Jet brown with a thin rich light brown head. Lots of barrel notes and a malty young port. Acidic and vinous with red fruit and a slight alcohol burn. Not bad, but not as well rounded as the other version.

Bottle @ home. Almost pitch black, small tan head that settles quickly, no lacing. Some coating. Aroma, sweet malty, dried figs, dried fruit, dark fruits, dessert wine, milk chocolate. Taste, malty sweet, dark fruits, red wine, caramel, chocolate, wood. The barrel aging really shines through. Almost no carbonation. Oily mouth feel. Warming alcohol in the end.

330ml bottle from Bierkompass

Vertical with Front Room (Malaga version) - Pours dark reddish brown with a small bubbly head. Aroma of sweet tartish berries, caramely malts, syrup and woody notes. Taste is sweet, tartish, vinous with notes of berries, port, wood and carbonation. Finish is syrupy, slightly tartish and vinous with loads of port notes. Pretty complex and vinous barley wine. I prefer this to the malaga version.

Muddy brown pour, two fingers of tan creamy head. Aroma of plumbs, carmalized brown sugar, some nuttiness also. Flavour is some mild hops, a hint of caramel, some light sweetness, and a little bit of heat. Really well integrated and balanced, there is nothing about the beer that is cloying, a very smooth beverage, it is a bit subdued compared to the aroma but overall an excellent BW so glad that we have access to this stuff.

Lonick (1872) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 3, 2013
Pours red/brown with a thin head. Fruity and caramel with a little oak sweet with a hint right at the back, right at the end of tobacco. Not as good as the front room

laiti (8481) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 1, 2013
33 cl bottle @ home
Aroma is rather sweet with porto, woody notes, some yeast, ripe berries and hints of vanilla. Flavour has porto, woody notes, some juice and caramel. Woody and dry palate. Surprisingly thin and straightforward, the alcohol is well hidden though. A slow sipper.

Bottle. Dark brown with tan head. Not a lot going on in the aroma, some dark fruits. Taste of sherry fruits, little chocolate. Sweet with a bitter finish. Preffered the other one.

Cirrhosis (1283) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 26, 2013
Dark brown with slight red highlights, very long lasting creamy cap considering the style. Aroma is creamy and sweet, pretty hoppy, mild chocolaty malts, smells really good. Very malty, with a nice hoppy finish. Chocolate, peach, sooooooooo smoooooooooth. Dark fruits, coffee, mild oak. This awesome beer is good.
