2014-11-20. Very dark brown body is nearly black with a tiny, fast fading brown head. 3+ Aroma is rich, moderately alcoholic, dark malt, leathery, sweet port like wine character. 7++ Flavour is similarly rich, sweet dark malt core, plums and dried dark
fruit, prunes, sweet rich yet delicate port character. Surprisingly moderate alcohol character considering the strength. Smooth
medium to full bodied palate is uncarbonated. Rich, and quite tasty but just a touch heavy for me today. I suspect I might add a
point or two in a different mood. Bottle via trade with Duffman marcus (10871) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 23, 2014
Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours orange copper with a modest beige head and a fruit and alcohol aroma. There is a full-bodied dark molasses flavor with a smooth fruity finish and a warm alcohol trail. DuffMan (10772) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 24, 2013
Bottle. Very dark amber, brickish highlights, low golden head. Sweet malty aroma, burnt sugars abound, dark fruits. Sticky, sweet, richly malty palate with flavours of molasses, brown sugar, dates, toast. Lip smackingly sweet sipper with enormous depth of flavour. Loved it. cubs (10740) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 1, 2014
On tap @ Crooked Stave Reserve Society meeting. Pours a cloudy orangish brown appearance with a thin brown. The aroma shows some oxidation along with bread, light citrus, caramel, and toffee. Moderately high sweetness and booze. Moderate bitterness. Medium full body. A touch nutty with some caramel, light chocolate, and burnt sugar. Ok. olio (10692) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 2, 2013

Pours dark mahogany red color with a small head. Aroma is sweet with dark fruits, lots of caramel malts, some brown sugar and toffee, faint resinous hops also. Very sweet plum and raisins on the flavor, caramel malts, toffee, wood, some plums and raisin with a hint of vanilla at the end. Alcohol is very well evened out with the sweet fruits and caramel. Soft carbonation, complex and heavy malty body with a sweet lingering finish. Very tasty slow sipper, not as brilliant as the Back Room was though.
Sample at SBWF 2013.
Almost clear dark brown with a small head. A lot of malt in this one. Also dried fruit, oak. toffee, choclate and some alcohol. A great beer to sip.

[6916-20141120] Bottle. Plum date fruity wine aroma hints at cocoa. Murky, dark brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Boozy toasted wine and caramelly grains flavour with a big a barrel finish. Full body. Interesting but it seems a little out of phase. 11.2oz bottle. Dark brown color. Thin off-white head. Couple bits of lace. Very big dark fruity notes, lots of fig, light vanilla, some caramel malt. Moderate sweet taste, but hides the alcohol much better than the malaga hvedegoop I just tasted. Bigger body. Smooth, slick, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Nice raisins, good barrelly light vanilla notes. Pretty tasty, rich, nice complex barleywine. Big sweetness doesn’t bother me here. Awesome dates, dark fruits, raisin aromas, hints of chocolate. b3shine (9267) - Indiana, USA - MAR 26, 2014
Bottle to snifter (shared with the group; thanks DuffMan). Looks good; a translucent darker brown with very thin light beige lacing. Smells good too; sweet and malty with notes of oak, vanilla, and a touch of earthiness. Tastes like it smells with notes of raisin and a nice, sweet, slightly vinous mouthfeel. Good beer! jredmond (8839) - New York, New York, USA - APR 12, 2013
Bottle shared with RB crew. Pours a thick murky brownish black body with no head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, dark fruits, raisins, chocolate and wood. Mouthfeel is medium to full with rich notes of molasses, maple, chocolate, oak, sweet malt, vanilla and dark fruit. I thought this was a wonderful barley wine.
