Pours amber with a creamy head. Nose shows heavy clean malt, pine, resinous hops and some lychee. Massive malt hit too. Very aggressive flavours, full of pine and grapefruit with a high, sharp, biting bitterness. Some booze too along with some malt that doesnt match the bitterness. Could use more carbonation.

Maris (1438) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - DEC 28, 2013
From a 330ml bottle on 28/12/2013. Pours cloudy and almost light amber with a tiny head. It all huge piny, resiny hops on the nose. Has a big caramel and toffee malt backbone. Theres additional sweetness to be found with stone fruit (peach and apricot) and a touch of honey, but it plays second fiddle to the bitterness, which is massive. Again, its resiny and piny, with lots of grapefruit, and it hangs around in your mouth forever. The texture is syrupy and the carbonation medium. This is a very good, big DIPA with the 10% no surprise at all. The bitterness is perhaps a touch over the top here, but thats a minor quibble.

OK DIPA. Not the best taste or palate, really leaves you wanting more. Feels too unbalanced.

33 cL bottle courtesy of Chris, served in a stem glass side-by-side with Yin, Yin & Yang and our own blend of Yin and Yang. Pours hazy golden-amber with a small off-white head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a trace amount of lace. On the nose, there are notes of citrus, resin and flowers, along with caramel malts. The flavour is balanced, medium sweet up front balanced with growing hop bitterness. It closes out with a nice herbal and resinous bitter finish. On the palate, it is medium in body with a slightly dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nice IPA with good balance. Worth another try on its own. 2013-06-07

On Draught
Pours a deep golden color with a good head and nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma offers a good dose of grapefruit and melon, its pleasantly hoppy, fresh smelling, and mildly sweet. Its a totally inviting aroma for a beer like this.

The flavor is piney and lightly sweet. Its got a moderate level of bitterness with some melon & fruit rind character. Its pretty darned hoppy all around with a nice lingering bitterness.

Just when I had all but given up on Double IPA as a style that 500 BC thing & this come along, geeze.
