English Language Label: This is one half of a Black & Tan. Not just any Black & Tan, but one where a toasted smug and hoppy fella get together to make a sublime Taiji balance. Mix the Yin & Yang together (or enjoy this profoundly evil Imperial Stout solo).

Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma has a little chocolate with some bready grain malts and a very slight boozy undertone, quite unique. Taste is rich with a nice bitter kick to it. Full body, strong carbonation, and creamier on the palate. A very nice stout.

12 ounce can. Opaque black color topped by a moderate frothy tan head. Mild roasted malt nose hints at charcoal and espresso. Rich, creamy roasted malt flavor. Bittersweet chocolate, espresso and resiny hops. Smooth and drinkable, though warming alcohol comes through in finish.

(Evil Twin Yin) Bottle 355ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10% Totally black colour on the body, tall and thick dark brown head but with low retention. Aroma of roasted malts, some liquorice, plenty of chocolate. Taste follows, liquoruice, roasted malts, coal, some peat too in there, chocolate, well hidden alcohol. Medium thick body with good carbonation, quite dry on the palate.

Kinda bummed to find out Yin and Yang don’t balance out, since Yin’s a much better stout than Yang is a DIPA. Not that bummed, though, because drinking Yin’s a pretty damn nice thing to do. Massive amounts of roasted malt and chocolate sit atop a bitter, dark roast finish. Sweet cocoa, raisin and anise are rounded out by a firm but manageable bitter finish, and the fade is pure sweet Imperial Stout goodness. Not quite the looker as its brother, but the nose is spot-on, and the alcohol’s an afterthought. Tasty. Tastier when mixed. Not sure why, but I’m just gonna accept the mystery on this one.
