Jacques Au Lantern, our Belgian-inspired pumpkin ale, is now on at the taproom. 6.1% abv, unfiltered and a whirlwind of spicy flavors and aromatics. It would take me a while to describe this one, its probably easier for all of us if you just stop by and try it.

Valley Forge 2013 Beer Fest. Mix of Belgian yeast and pumpkin, squash. Medium/thick in body. Really doesnt work at all. Not terrible, not great.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a hazy copper color. The head is a one finger white shade. Its very fizzy-looking with poor retention. No lacing, either. S: Theres some typical allspice character from a-- wait, Belgian yeast? Yep, those apple, grape, and pear notes are unmistakable. I also get some brown sugar sweetness. The yeast helps give it a unique twist missing in many other pumpkin ales. T: First things first, I dont get much actual gourd flavor. Rather, this is loaded with spices - both allspice and yeast-derived. These two elements have good cohesion, thankfully. It finishes with a nice wave of brown sugar. The nuance and depth of this one is pretty good; my only complaint is that its a bit sweet (especially taking the use of Belgian yeast into consideration). M: Medium bodied - not too heavy nor too light. The finish is both dry and sweet, with the former being aided with strong carbonation. Okay, it doesnt have bone dry feel of, say, Orval, but its still pretty drinkable in comparison to its complexity. O: Even though Im a fan of Evolution, my expectations for this werent particularly high because hey, its a friggin pumpkin ale. My fears were assuaged, because this is quite good. Unlike a lot of the mediocre examples of the style, this is both tasty and relatively deep. This brewery has no hype why?

On tap into tulip. Salisbury. Appearance: amber and slightly hazy. No head. Aroma: pumpkin pie. Spices. Malted barley Taste: slightly sweet. Pumpkin taste. Palate: medium body. Normal finish. Overall: a pretty respectable pumpkin ale. Not overbearing. Pumpkin is present, but not too much.

This is a really nice pumpkin beer. Not very spiced like many, and has a good body and flavor to it. I like the complexity the Belgian yeast brings. Very good.

Pours clear amber orange with a big frothy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma brings lightly sweet pumpkin spices, warming like pumpkin pie. Flavor brings lightly zesty pumpkin spices, purer carbonated body.

Not a very good pumpkin beer. The beer pours a light amber color with an orange hue. The nose features some potential for the rest of the beer, but unfortunately, thats where the good qualities end. The aroma had some really nice pumpkin and nutmeg tones, but not enough in the flavors. The body was thin and contained a sour citrus flavor that was a huge turn-off. The sour and skunky flavor carried over into the finish, leaving a very undesirable aftertaste.
