Aroma is reminiscent of a red wine, strong (but not overpowering) notes of raspberry. Color is as black as sludge. I placed a flashlight against the side of the glass and could only see a faint glow through the glass. The color is a bit intimidating, but the first sip is rewarding. Hints of raspberry, semi-sweet dark chocolate, very faint plum, and raisin combine to form a beautiful combination of flavors. Finish is quite robust but smooth. Very rich, very flavorful. Absolutely no head. MoneyDragon (14) - Delaware, USA - OCT 21, 2012
On tap at Specific Gravity. Had to let the pour sit for awhile to warm as it should be enjoyed at around 50 degrees F. Very dark pour with thin head. More transparent than a Stout but dark in color like one. Nose is very complex and wonderful with hints of wine, light vanilla, and to many others to list. Taste is even more complex. I suggest if you ever have the chance to put your hands on this one that you jump at the oppurtunity. bhensonb (15985) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Capped 750 from Beachbum25. Many thanks for this. Pours very dark brown with a foamy/fizzy light tan head. The aroma suggests a moderate flemish ale. Hints of sour. Hints of oak. Vinosity. Med + body. Flavor is dark fruit and malt, vinous, oaky, astringent, somewhat earthy/sour. This finishes extremely tasty. Excellent ale. CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 6, 2012
On tap at Klobys: Pours a clear dark mahogany with a fine, wispy-lacing light beige head. Has a sweet biscuity dark caramel malty nose with lots of vinous oak and light fruity esters. Body starts with good fullness and carbonation with good dark malty sweetness and lots of red grape tartness and fresh oak. Finishes drier with a good slightly puckering balance. Not quite as subtle or smooth as it could be, but that change as it ages. It certainly packs a lot of flavor though. boxofrane (2559) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Draft at craft ale house. Pours close to black with a small tan head that dissipates to a film. The aroma has a big wood presence, some brown sugar, a big cabernet wine note. The taste has a lot of sweetness, some dark fruit, some honey, some almost cocoa, and a big kick from the barrel on the finish.

Draft offering..dark color..much darker than expected almost black..aroma is quite vinous..however in a good way..boy i can see how a wine type person could take to this..wine like taste profile..lots of grapes..fruit..interesting..got better as it warmed a bit..first taste when poured and still a bit too cold reminded me of manischevitz wine..not a positive..alcohol is pretty well hidden..could see how this would be different with some age to it..but not as good as some of the other evo barrel aged offerings imho... sonnycheeba (6561) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 22, 2012
Tap. Pours deep, dark brown with thin, creamy beige head; short retention and some lacing. Aroma is cocoa, oak, roast malt, light smoke, earthy hops, figs, and plums. Flavor is dark, sweet malts forward with dark fruit esters, light hops, and smoke; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation. Jesterdeal (1986) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Aroma of tart red wine vinegar, sugared plums, and slight chocolate. Pours deep black red with a small film. Taste is an interesting blend. Subdued vinegar notes, dark fruits, plum and slight cane sugar. No bite whatsoever and very pleasant.
