Draft sample at Dominion Wine & Beer. 2014 vintage. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, dark chocolate, whiskey. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, slight dark fruit, nicely mellowed whiskey. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Drinking nice with some age on it.

Winter 2014 bottle. Pours black with a mocha head that dissipates pretty quickly. Pleasant aroma of roast, vanilla, oak and some alcohol. Flavor wise, this is very tasty- yes, bourbon forward but not hot or harsh in any way. Pretty smooth, actually. Not a quite a porter or stout so calling it a dark ale works. Flavor of some roastiness, pipe tobacco, vanilla and plenty of bourbon character. Pleasantly sweet without getting cloying. Earthy hop character provides balance. Nice alcohol warmth on the swallow. Body is smooth but a bit thin with some lively carbonation at first. Overall, a really nice beer if you enjoy bourbon barrel offerings. I would definitely pick this up again if I come across another bottle.

Pours a jet black with no lacing or head retention. Smells of cocoa and bourbon at the onset. It tastes like bourbon and chocolate on the aftertaste. It’s a bit strange as it’s dark and chocolatey with not being a stout. I like this!

Strong vanilla and oak, with a bourbon-like heat from the alcohol. Too much for me, but probably very enjoyable for others.

750ml bottle from Capones, 2012. Dark brown with a tanish head that completely disappears. Dark vanilla, oak, vanilla, some caramel, bit of molasses, mild carbonation and moderate+ boday. Sweet, more vanilla and bourbon, well balanced, tasty, worth trying.

Bottle, Winter 2013... Poured dark, almost black in color, nice thick tan head. Aroma of bourbon, roasted malts and a bit of caramel. Taste is also mostly bourbon, with a strong presence of alcohol; there is also a bit of dark fruit, some malt sweetness and maybe even some chocolate. Very nice beer... Quite enjoyable.

Bottle from Champagne’s, the best I have had from the series. Here, the bourbon is smoothly integrated rather than the opposite I have had from other brewers. Moderation in chocolate, coffee, and all things. beautiful!
