Sampled at the Schilling Cider House in Portland on my honeymoon - It pours deep brown with a tan head. It has a medium / full rich body with soft carbonation. The taste has deep toast, harsh woodiness, hazelnut and aggressive hoppiness. Pretty good, but would like to retry at some point - probably a tough thing to do being on the other side of the country for a while. fiery1 (1888) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2017
500ml bottle @ Josh’s. Pours an opaque brown with a tiny head. Nose presents cocoa and hints of grassy grains. Flavour is a touch hot with a sweet cocoa character. Oakes (19909) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2017
Medium brown. No head. Catching cocoa, touch of smoke, and sweet sugars. On the palate, the smoke kicks in a lot, but sweet figgy, date goodness. Has a mellow bitterness. Complex, but the big complexity here is with the smokiness, a sweet note from the barrel, and then a little bit of fruitiness, too. This goes down well, lacking overt booziness. Honestly, this is really nice, and with more complexity than most. mcberko (20860) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2017
500mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out deep dark fruits, followed by cocoa and toffee. Flavour is along the same lines, with dark dried fruits, light-medium smoke, toffee, toasted malt and a little cocoa. Dry, astringent finish, with a nice balanced of the aforementioned flavours. Alcohol is apparent but not too harsh. Nicely constructed, though hot and imperfect.

A good l and interesting Porter. Pours a deep muddy brown with a tan head. Smells of figs and bourbon. Taste is smooth and well balanced. Lots of figs right up front, followed by bourbon and cocoa, and a smooth, smoky finish. Had in the bottle. TimE (6492) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 9, 2016
Dark brown color. Light brown head. Dark fruit, plums, big roasted malt, chocolate cake in the nose. Big roasted malt backbone with tons of dark fruit , chocolate cake and dates. Pretty big bitterness at the end. Fairly sticky and full body. Warming finish. Very rich and intense. The is an alcohol numbing which lingers in the mouth. I personally liked that as it wasn’t over the top, but agree with others this will be fantastic with more time. I would love to revisit in a couple years. raphael (1330) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 30, 2016
good name and concept (dark barley wine), but overall both clean and murky. nothing grabbed my nose, not even alcohol, or something seeming aged. and barley wines have become border walkers. dark color but not much dark flavor. biirusaikou (2705) - - MAR 26, 2016
Draught at PDX Taproom. Figs and chocolate notes are definitely there blending nicely into raisin and dark caramel from the malts, somewhat surprisingly light bodied, fairly dry finish with a warming edge. Very good stuff, could simply be outstanding aged and with a bit more body. GothGargoyle (2587) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 25, 2016
Black with a light brown head. Aroma is dates, chocolate, fig, fenugreek, prune. Full bodied, lightly sticky mouthfeel, well balanced palate with a slightly roasty warming finish. Taste is dates, figs, prune, lightly toasted malts.
