Its a delightful drinking beer made of barley and corn with a light hop character. This brewing process (lagering) takes 3 times longer than the other beers that Excel produces. Carlyle Lake Lager is a classic American pilsner. Its truly an anytime beer.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark gold with minimal head. Aroma of dark wheat and bready malt. Taste is very light bitter. Bready and doughy. Really not bad.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2014 This beer pours a hazy deep golden color with a medium white head that dissipates quickly but with black sediment. The aroma blends bread malts, unoffensive corn, and a hint of dough yeast; the taste is mildly sweet and slightly sour, but the two complement each other well. The palate soft carbonation, slightly sour finish, medium-full body, and a slick texture.

Like others have noted it is a pale lager. So if you like pale lagers it will not disappoint. nothing special.

Sample at Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar. Pours a clear pale golden color with a medium fizzy white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and mild hops. Light-bodied with a lightly bitter grassy hops character with biscuit malt in the background. The finish is mildly bitter with a short herbal hops aftertaste. Just average overall.

12 oz. bottle via in-person STL trade. Pours a clear, bright gold with a finger of fizzy white head that dissipates quickly into nothing. Some rising carbonation bubbles remain. Aroma of corn, pale and sweet malts, and some grass and straw. Flavor of pale and sweet and cereal malts, corn flakes, and a good amount of hay. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a flat, malty, dry mouthfeel. Carbonation really exits this quickly. Not a bad pale lager but nothing to write home about.

12 ounce bottle. A honey gold pour that has an off white head and a nice amount of visible carbonation. I smell light noble hops and a smidge of honey. Those are tasted, too. A bit of grass and grain. Nothing exciting here but it is a pale lager.

Sampled at the 2013 Heritage Festival. It poured a light clear golden color with a small white head. The aroma was of sweetness, malt, and light hops. The taste was of the same with a bit more hops. This light bodied brew was not bad.

Easy drinking beer, more flavor than a typical light lager beer. The beer reminds me of stag when it was brewed in Belleville.

Clear, light gold pour with a thin, white head. The aroma has some sugary corn and light straw. It has a light, watery texture with average carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a clean, somewhat dry finish. Kind of a typical, generic pale lager.
