COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
California breweries are known for their distinctively American take on the classic English style: India Pale Ale. Heavily hopped, Excel Eastside IPA brings to the forefront notes of lemon zest, grapefruit and pine with a dry finish. Here at Excel, we’re brewing up some West Coast flavors on the East Side.

Nice copper color out of a bottle. Soapy head with moderate lacing. Faint hoppy aroma. Mouthfeel is at once sticky and crisp. Flavor has some citrus notes, though leaning more towards lemon rind than lemon zest. Would like to try on tap. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the hoppy pub stand at a food event in Thessalonniki / 30th of April 2017. Pours unclear blonde. OK white head. Smell is hoppy, bit malts. Taste is full, hoppy, somewhat juicy. Decently bitter, but doesn’t taste like fresh hops were being used here.

Bottle. Dirty orangish gold pour with a huge and frothy white head. Aromas of lightly floral hops with a touch of citrus, but not much in the nose. Flavor is juicy fruit hops with a bit of grain dustan a hint of caramel. It didn’t strike my fancy on first sip, but has grown on me as it warms a bit.

Golden pour with a white head. Aroma is spicy hops and malt. Taste is slight spicy hops, a little earthy. Nice malt backbone. OK beer, so-so lacing.

Sent to me by Strykzone. Thanks Dave. Poured amber. Off-white head. Nose of citrus and pine. Medium body. Flavor is citrus and some tropical fruit like mango. Bitter pine finish. Good drinking.

Crushed in the presence of Jakebra. One solid IPA. Balanced as hell. Really enjoyed this one.

Pours a medium, slightly cloudy orange with moderate head, good lacing remaining throughout. Solid IPA with plenty citrus/floral on the nose. Well-balanced, just dry enough for my taste. Nice effort!

I’d never heard of Excel until today. Not a bad effort considering where this brewery is located. Murky orange-copper color with a smallish white head. Aroma is piney hops, a tiny, tiny bit of tropical fruit. Tastes of pine and citrus hops (citrus at first, then the pine resin takes over) with some malt sweetness, but not enough for this to be close to balanced. It’s almost a good IPA, but needs better balance to get it close to "good" status.
