3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
At the Irish pub in Excelsior. a better than average brown. fairly thick palate. lots of malt and it is bitter with grain. it could use some more hops, but it has something to offer in a style that is rarely worth drinking.
Bottle; pours brown with a tan head; aroma of caramel, toffee, malt, and a hint of nuts; taste is a light sweet with caramel, malt, nuts, and a hint of chocolate; finish is dry with some light caramel sweetness lweiberg (139) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - MAY 22, 2016
A great IPA for this season. Had it on tap at the draft house. Nice hints of flair and strong notes. douglas88 (9195) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 19, 2015

Bottle. Pours a near blear brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of bread and earthy grain with a bit of sweetness underlying. Flavor has a bit more sweet grain with bread and a hint of toffee underlying. SODAK14 (378) - Rapid City, South Dakota, USA - JUN 16, 2015
Meh... Just your run of the mill, average brown ale. Taste what OK (what did you expect?). Not a big fan over the dry finish. arminjewell (9676) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 19, 2015
Pour on tap at Republic Calhoun, hazy dark red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, earth, slight caramel, toffee into a bit of yeast, slight bread into a bit of toast. Taste was a mix of toast, bread, caramel into a bit of spice, grass, slight toffee, finishing fairly sweet, slightly spicy. VeinAle (134) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 1, 2015

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Corey. Rich chestnut brown pour with burnt copper-orange edges; creamy, foamy beige head plumes up nicely on top & settles slowly. Aroma has a nice CaraMunich malt base. Toasty caramel notes, nuts, faint cocoa dust, a touch of toffee, & a hint of dark fruit sweetness, namely prune. Mild inclusion of musty earthiness, too. Starts to get a touch of apple-y tartness with some warmth... Uh-oh? Flavor... whoa! Sour apples & acetic acid are the first thing to hit my tongue. Vinegar, sourness, & acetone bury the malt base almost completely. Infected, by a long shot. Strange how it was surpassed in the aroma? Very weird. Sadly I must hammer the score as this was pretty gross.
