COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
cask, special
Our good friend and CAMRA BLO, Philip Roberts died last September. He had been very active in CAMRA both locally and nationally and we wanted to mark his passing. He had been a very competent home brewer and his widow, Jane, provided us with the recipe for an IPA that he had brewed and which she and others had enjoyed. We scaled it up to our brew length and invited Jane and other members of the local CAMRA branch to come and help brew it. The pub clip was designed by his daughter, Helen. So here is It’s Phil’s Ale 4.8%; a golden beer, brewed with Devon malt and Cluster, Magnum, Bobek, Challenger & Citra hops - bursting with hops. Available in good pubs now.

Half-pint, from cask by gravity at the lovely Bridge Inn. Bubbly, low white head. Minimal lacing. Bright golden-brown body. Inviting aromas of citrus and brown malts. Blended taste profile of lemon, caramel and marmalade followed by a bittersweet end of citrus peels. Clean in the mouth. Pretty nice (Topsham 29.09.2016).

Gravity, Leicester BF, 22/03/13. Brilliant orange gold with a dissipated skim of bubbles. Coniferous piney orange nose. Good blended hop flavour mingling sensible grassy continental stuff with harsher pine and grapefruit bitterness. Some aniseed; some dankness. Lean, soapy and nutty. Bitter nut afters with a cushion of malt, even popcorn. Very decent.
