Bottle from a now unrecalled source. Pours mid brown with an average sized off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, molasses and nut. Moderate sweetness and medium plus bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Packs quite a punch.

This is an awesome beer, even in the land of ales. For me is one of my favourite british ales, has a strong, malty aftertaste. Very nice with spicy dishes, but the best with porky/beefy meats. Strong beer for big drinkers. Luved it.

BlackHaddock (6980) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 17, 2017
500 ml bottle: BBD 13th Aug 2017. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 17th Feb 2017. Deep, dark mahogany body, foaming lightly tanned head. Roasted, toasted malts lead the nose and taste with both chocolate and toffee flavours to the fore, some dark fruit notes too (raisins, plums, dates, dried figs). Liked it.

500ml bottle bought at Topsham Wines. Deep rosewood coloured body under a remaining off-white head. Lacing rings down the glass. Attractive aromas of brown and black malts. Solid taste profile of chocolate and caramel with a backdrop of dark fruits. Drying malt-fruity ending. Well bodied. Good drinking (shared with friends at Finns place 05.01.2017).

5/10/16 bottle at home. Oh my, this is what a strong ale should be like. Malt overload but so well done that it works. Satisfying from pour to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Premier Hele Bay Garage, Ilfracome. Clear copper-brown with a frothy head. Sweet in both aroma and taste, with a mild spiciness among more dominant dark malts. Its a fairly smooth tasting strong ale.

mt_hall (195) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 19, 2016
Bottled. A very dark red-brown (but not as dark as a stout.) Has a good sized head of fine, light brown foam. Aromas of toffee, burnt caramel, and malt, with some freshness to balance and some spice (clove?) A sweet start in the mouth and then a drier, spicy finish. Good body and warmth; well balanced. Excellent.
