Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A deep ruby brown colour with a foamy off white head. Aroma of toffee, nuts, dark fruit, some coffee, slight chocolate, a little liquorice and subtle spicy hops. Taste of nuts, dark fruit, coffee, some toffee, slight treacle, a little liquorice, a hint of chocolate and subtle spicy hops. Medium bodied but a watery texture. A dry, lingering, spicy and coffee bitterness in the finish. A strong, flavourful beer with spicy and fruity flavours. Cask at Reading Beer Festival. Strong malt character, quite rich. Pretty tasty, although a touch heavy.

Appearance - dark brown to black with a lovely fawn head.
Nose - toffee nuts and chocolate.
Taste - more of the same. Very creamy.
Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish.

Cask @ Cricketers Arms, Eastleigh. Clear amber body with a thin off-white film of foam. Quite mild aroma of caramel malt and dry fruit. Flavor is soft, smooth caramel malt, light roast, dry fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and aftertaste. Cask at The Railway, Putney. As ’Exmoor Beast’, 6.6%, with Beast of Exmoor themed pumpclip. Very dark brown, orange hue, small bubbly brown head, droopy lacing. Aroma is light, airy, bread. Body is medium, soft carbonation, smooth. Taste is bready, tangy, currants, dense breads, peppery, touch of smoke, resinous hops. Not a standard porter by any means. Would easily pass for an ESB. It’s alright.
