The 330ml 2011 vintage bottle with lotto 214-11 was bought in late March 2012 at Johnny’s Off License (Via Veio) in Roma. Cloudy amber coloured body, slightly off-white head fading to a patchy surface. Spotty lacing to the glassware. Spiced fruity aroma, hints of apricot and herbal hops. Subdued vapour of alcohol. The taste character has got a bittersweet citrus peak with candy sweetness and yeasty fruitiness beneath. Lingering bittersweet ending with noticeable alcohol. Soft in the mouth. Full bodied. Enjoyed for about an hour at home in Tromsø, 30.12.2012.
2016 Bottle at Masseria Susafa, bought in Palermo, 1st June 17. Pours a copper colour. Aroma is caramel, yeast, dates and dark fruit juice, prune. Taste is fig, prune, fruit cake, caramel, quite sweet, sticky, limited alcohol present. Good sipper watching the Sicilan sunset. Vinx (133) - ITALY - JAN 30, 2017
Aroma of yellow fruit, red fruit, wood, citrus, lactic, caramel in the background and further something nutty. As the beer gets warmer some spicy aromas come out: cumin, pepper, cloves. Ruby red color, very little foam. Its sweetness is properly balanced by a medium body and by the citric and lactic freshness from the maturation in wine barrel (i don’t know which wine) that somehow gives balsamic notes. Velvety, soft carbonation, a little astringent finish. The Reserva 2012 is one of the best italian beers I’ve ever tasted, it’s a masterpiece of balance between the malt mildness and its slightly sour character. Chapeau! Al naso note fruttate, frutta candita frutta sotto spirito e leggera speziatura.In bocca idem, dolce, frutta sotto spirito, malto, biscotto. "Reserva 2016" On tap @ Extraomnes bier e cibo. Giallo ambrato carico velato, schiuma bianco lattiginoso, fine persistente. Aroma intenso fine e complesso. Subito si avvertono note fruttate riconducibili al vino, uva appassita, legno ,quasi liquoroso. esteri del lievito belga, fruttati, pesca sciroppata, zucchero candito, leggerissima luppolatura. Dolce amabile, acidula, solo nel finale qualche sentore amaro, ma il calore alcolico lo "lava" immediatamente, speziata, Calda, poco carbonata, corpo medio, rotonda, "piena". Aroma has ripe fruits, apricot and alcohol. Foamy palate. Flavour has burning & warming alcohol, ripe fruits, apricot and some yeasty tones. Finishes with some spicy tones and more alcohol. Very Belgian, reminds me of some Bush beers. Alcohol clearly pushes through here but luckily most of it is of warming type.
2013 bottle, thanks heaps to mowbeer for bringing this back from rome. hazed golden with a fluffy head; some alcohol still showing in the aroma along with sweet bread dough; flavour of cinnamon rolls dunked in rum; quite agreeable
