[1988 Bottle, thanks for sharing this rarity, ygtbsm94!] Pours dark golden with a small white head. Funkiness in the aroma is pretty subdued, with a decent amount of sourness that turns semi-sweet at times. Pretty nice. The taste starts a little sweet as well, then turns funky, especially in the finish, that is dry. Smooth with pretty good mouthfeel. A very well-rounded gueuze, and an awesome experience to get to try something this old.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2010 1988 vintage thanks to Beastiefan2k. Moldy cork. Poured a hazy gold color. the aroma was very nicely tart with just a hint of funk. Tart flavor with a mild acidic burn. Woody and lemony. Light bodied.

1984 vintage. Poured a hazy still brown. Mildly sweet old malt aroma with a fairly tart flavor. Puckering produced.

750ml corked bottle, 1988 vintage, broken out graciously shared by ygtbsm94 in January of 2009. Sweet mellow aroma, shows little of it’s age, but still holds up quite well. Still has some carbonation. There are some light sour tastes, but they have mellowed as well. Very pleasant lemon lime wheaty aftertaste. Extra points for aging gracefully. An awesome treat.

75cl bottle, 1988 vintage, courtesy of ygtbsm94. Orange-amber color that has some head despite the age. Mellow and smooth aroma, though still quite tart and citric. Smooth, sour and woody flavor. Low on the carbonation, but that was expected. Really cool to sample a gueuze with this much age on it.

Courtesy of YGTBSM94. 1988 bottle consumed 1/10/09. Clear pale amber body with a tiny white head. The nose is cheese and light citrus with just a touch of cork. The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly sour with lemon, hay, cobweb, light cheese and pineapple. Medium body is very soft with very light carbonation.

Rating 20 Dec 2008:
We had vintage 1984, a 75cL bottle at the Verzekering tegen grote dorst, in Eizingen. Beautiful beer, seems to have even improved in it’s age. Slightly orangy yellow. Head disappears instantly, but logically it is not poored in such a way that it can develop a good one either. Lemony citrus aroma, bread and some apples. Very dry finish. Great way to start a day!

Major thank you to beastiefan2k for sharing this 1988 vintage bottle! Pours a cloudy dull gold. Lots of barnyard, musty wood, and damp earth in the aroma along with some light lemon vapors. Very complex. The flavor is tangy and sour with more lemon and less funk than the aroma. Moderately effervescent and lively on the tongue. This was a real treat, thank you!
