Cask sample at Volo Cask Days 2008. Slightly hazy deep red with a thin head. Aroma and flavour both hold sweet malt, cherries, burnt sugar, anise, cardamom, and a solid hit of herbal hops. Really smooth for 7.5%. One of my favourites of the festival. garthicus (2945) - Dublin, IRELAND - JAN 23, 2009
On cask at Volo Cask days. Appearance: Ruby red, bubbly white head. Aroma: Spicy, cinnamon, cherry, exotic fruits. Flavour: Cinnamon, dark berries, grape, pepper. Very nice, very enjoyable. mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 17, 2009
[1806-20081020] Cask. Fruity grain aroma has wafts of citrus. Hazy, dark red body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Mild fruity grains flavour has a mild citrus finish. Medium body is thin. Bitter up-front, drinkable but something weird and tangy about it.

Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2008.Beer of the festival for me - I got one of the first full pours, had several more later. Hazy deep red-amber pour with a large lasting frothy white head. Intensely floral and bitter aroma -- like rosehips and hibiscus -- with solid sweet malt underneath. The taste followed, very floral bitter and very malty both (hell, for some reason I kept thinking 'ESB' even though that’s crazy), the floral character morphed more to grassy/herbal hop pungency as my palate adjusted, but initially it reminded me of very strong Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger tea, right down to the thick mouthfeel and spiciness - excellent 'red' beer and I really, REALLY hope George does this one again - I’d make a special trip up to Volo just to have pints of it!

Cask left over from ’Volo Cask Days 2008’. Pours a murky dark orange-copper with a spare diminishing bubbly off-white head. Aroma’s nice and malty along with lots of green hops, some light brown sugar sweetness and maybe some chocolate too -- impressive. Flavour: Oh wow, like the aroma it’s also quite malty but surprisingly hoppy as well. There’s caramel malt, toffee, lots of piney/herbal hops, light spices and a very nice long bitter finish. Alcohol’s totally hidden. Medium bodied. This was so easy to drink for me, I finished my pint in no time -- please make this a year-round beer! My fave of the festival or in my top 3 at the very least. tomthompson89 (1983) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 28, 2008

2008-10-20. Ruby brown body, headless. (3+) Fruity, herbal/anise like aroma. (7+) Similar flavour, sweet malty base, light herbal character like anise or something I can’t place. Light bitterness balances it. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. Really quite drinkable. Second glass has substantially more hop character and less of the herbal/herbaceous character. Pretty solid. Alcohol is almost non-existent on the palate. Cask at Volo barncatmatt (2355) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 23, 2008
on cask at volo cask days 2008. deep reddish amber with solid carbonation. it was nice to have one of the first servings of this from the fresh cask. aromas are quite floral. herb and hops also present. the flavour is malt driven but there are hops there in a plenty. the bitterness isnt only from the hops and this is one that i would have liked to see progress over the life of the cask. the abv was undetectable and this was a very well crafted brew. Pours a dark dark grapefruit colour, and that was the best bit. Some hop aroma. Some fruitiness, medium mouthfeel. Hoppiness here, however not very complex. Its quaffable in a pinch, but character not very well there. More a homebrew. Decent overall. Volo Cask Fest 2008.
