COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our nod to the traditional German black lager, produced with old-world step-mashing methods. Well-balanced, it features the coloring of a stout or porter but with a restrained black malt flavor. This beer is smooth and deceptively complex.

Tap at Pizza Luce Seward location. Pint glass. Pitch black in color. Tannish or off white head. Smell has roasted malt and maybe a little dark chocolate bitterness. Little espresso quality. Taste is medium on the roast as well tossing hops away in a malted explosion. Caramel and even coffee characteristics. Bitter finish. Pretty solid effort. I would drink again.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a pours a deeper blackish brown hue, a good hazy body with ruby raisin glow on the edges and bottom. Frothy offwhite head with a fleck of tan hits the glass, bigger layer sticks around well, a nice firm film retains and laces solid. Aromas are toasty, nutty, a bit of caramel and dark fruit. Subtle raisinette, earth. Caramel, a bit of nougat, faint roast and earthiness grow. Subtle Tootsie roll, earth, biscuit. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a bit lighter with earth, subtle cocoa, grainy malts, toasty biscuits. Some earth, toasty malts, faint dark fruit. Some subtle toaster remnants, carmelized and subtle pretzels. A bit of milk chocolate, subtle dark fruit. Earth, some malty life. A bit of earth, faint roast and nougat. This isn’t heavy or sweet but it’s got some girth and flavor behind it. Finish is a bit toasty, bitter and earthy. Mellow sweetness, biscuit linger. Solid stuff.
