A twist on the traditional dry Irish stout, featuring oats and a hefty dose of brown malt, a traditional lightly roasted malt that gives a smooth and complex roasted flavor without the acrid character of a true black malt.

Tap at brewery with commonmac. Black with medium tan head. Typical stout nose. Roasted and malty. Fairly mild. Easy to drink, smooth but not super creamy. Good, but nothing special.

Tap at Pizza Luce. Red brown with a thin tan ring and spotty lacing. Medium roast coffee, salted almond, bittersweet chocolate and cracker. Bittersweet chocolate flavor. Medium body with a foamy feel.

islay (2816) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 18, 2015
Approximately 2 oz. pour at the 2015 Harvest Beer Festival, consumed on 10-17-15. Pours dark brown with beige head. Nice, chocolate scent. Solid stout flavor. Smooth in the palate. Enjoyable beer if not a particularly remarkable or memorable one. Not Fair State’s best but a respectable entry in its style.

Deep brown color with no head. Hints of a roasty aroma. Powerfully roasted malt and tar flavor. Very earthy. Dey and bitter.

deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 8, 2015
On tap at the brewery. Pours black with an earthy dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts and dark grains with a touch of smoke. Flavored roasted malt forward with a decent amount of smoke and dark grains supporting.

Keg @ Fair State. Deep brown with a tight tan head. Nice well rounded nose. Earthy roasted malts. Brown sugar. Chocolate. Taste is mild cocoa, toasted brown bread. Coffee. Dry finish. Sharp carb. Decent.

JK (6202) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - MAR 13, 2015
Well roasted malt, but not burned. Light coffee notes and a fair amount of chocolate. Rich, smooth palate, a little thick. Ery good for this session style stout.

arminjewell (9687) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 5, 2015
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, roast, some coffee and acidic malt notes into a bit of yeasty, spicy notes. Taste was a mix of cocoa powder, toffee, coffee into some roast, acidic malt, slight spice, finishing slightly bitter, dry.

Bacterial (3005) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - DEC 21, 2014
Thin black pour with a nice tan head at the brewery. Really nice nose, roasted malt, slightly sweet. Yep, thats a traditional dry Irish stout. Smooth, somewhat odd mouthfeel (maybe due to the dryness?).

Atom (2486) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 20, 2014
On nitro tap at Grumpys NE, pours a dark brown/black with a creamy khaki head. Aroma of dry sweet chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is smooth and dry, dry chocolate and mild roasted malt, light sweet molasses. A very drinkable stout.
