Tap at the brewery. Pours opaque black with a large, creamy beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt, earthy, floral, and citrus hops. Flavor is bitter roast and chocolate malt, moderate earthy and floral hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Tap. Pours an opaque black with a layer of tan head. Aroma of hops with some malts and chocolate. Taste is nice, hoppy but with nice chocolate and coffee. DocJitsu (2059) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - OCT 12, 2014
Pours a nearly opaque, dark brown with faint ruby coming through around the edges I the sunlight. Nice, dark tan head with a reddish hue. Lacing coats the inside of the glass. Citrusy, sweet, hoppy nose. No dark malt erected at all. Very complex. Smooth, but gets scrubby on the rear of the tongue. Some anise, coffee, dark bakers chocolate. Quite bitter. Nearly none of the sweetness noted in the aromas. In fact, I can’t think of a beer that differed so much between the nose and the flavor. Quite unique. Draft at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a bubbly beige head and lots of lacing. Tastes like burnt toast, rich coffee, toasted malt, very good. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet, malty cocoa, light coffee and roasted grains. Itzjerm (3171) - Taft, Tennessee, USA - JUN 22, 2014
A very nice sweet balanced black malty beer. Fading head dark black. Very impressive. One of the best beers of Alabama. Nice creamy with bitter punch

On tap, thin black pour with a light tan head. Aroma is full of malt and pine, cocoa, very nice! Taste is great, well balanced hoppiness with a nice malt backbone. This one drinks light a light refreshing beer...even though its a very dark colored beer. Great example of the style.

Draft at the source. Very dark maroon color, thick brown head with nice retention and solid lacing. Nice pine and dark cocoa aroma. Taste is unsweetened cocoa, bitter and floral finish. Very tasty. GTAEgeek (2495) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - DEC 26, 2013
Growler from Liquor Express in Huntsville. The plastic bottle had a little too much adventure, so my sample may be a little off. Pours black, with just a few bubbles, and no head. Resin and citrusy hops, light coffee and chocolate malts. Light malty sweetness up front, with significant bitterness through the finish, and long into the aftertaste. Medium body, oily, and very astringent. Overall, this is a mediocre black IPA. No carbonation, and a relatively unpleasant flavor. Hopefully I can resample this sometime, uncontaminated.
