A joint project of Hotel Ostrov and Falkenštejn Brewery, the Falkenštejn Polotmavý Ležák is a Czech-style beer brewed by traditional technology with five types of malt and hopped with the Sládek and Saaz varieties. It has a typical semi-dark color and is characterized by fine bitterness with caramel tones. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized.

330 ml bottle as "Falkenštejn Polotmavý Ležák Ostroff 12°" via trade with Aseclja and Rotin. Thank you!

Looks: Cloudy hazy copper brown colour with a thin ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; One finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant rich Amber malt, with light roastyness, nuts, strong caramel, toffee, light floral, molasses, light spices, thick bread, yeast and thin lemon.

Taste: Mid to light sweet fair Amber malt, with caramel, toffee, floral, light molasses, spices, light wood, dry biscuits, yeast, lemon, medium bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body. Dry, slick and smooth palate.

Mouth Feel: Good Amber maltyness in a solid and creamy background. Very good caramel and toffee base, flowery with light sweetness. Dry biscuity with woody spicyness, fair lemon to round. Very good!

Hoppiness: Light floral, light spices and thin lemon in nose, same in taste but stronger and with wood and grass; Bitterness is fair for a lasting, medium astringent Bitter-sweet Amber malty finish.

After Taste: Very dry. Caramel biscuity and fairly bitter to mouth.

Comments: My first Polotmavý, and a pretty good one, too: the Amber maltyness is obviously stronger than the typical macro Amber Lagers, with very good caramel / toffee malts, subtle Saaz hops, and close to bone dry finish. Well done!

hauxe (1153) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - NOV 2, 2017
Bottle thanks to wombat23. Amber with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is caramel, cracker, with berry hints. Taste is sweet to sour and overall quite malty with notes of toffee, caramel, and tea. A sour berry inflection rounds out the finish. Body is fairly light with moderate carbonation. Overall, I don’t know much about the style so it’s hard to compare, but it’s not a bad brew.

adamnowek (3802) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 17, 2017
Extremely deep caramel colour. Slightly opaque. Off-white head. Smells like oatmeal, brown sugar, and toffee. Taste is caramel, brandy, malt, and a tiny bit of sour fruit.

darbeer75 (1169) - Round Rock, Texas, USA - SEP 26, 2017
Aroma: odd caramel, malt and cracker combination; Appearance: murky brown pour with thin white head that lingers; Taste: follows nose but not too intense; such an odd style; Palate: light bodied with long, strangely malty finish; Overall: okay but would not seek out again.
