A session beer with caramel, citrus & fruity notes
When the Kippen based Fallen Brewing brewery and the Cross Keys pub in Kippen agreed to a joint project to create in-house ale they knew that only one name would be fitting for the new brew.
Eight different versions later after five different tasting evenings the Kippen folks finally decided on the final brew. The beer is a classic amber that was created by locals for the locals. With a caramel toffee backbone and a nice citrus bite the low ABV is one best enjoyed with friends.
The full name of the beer became ‘1703 – Archie’s Amber’. The 1703 being the date The Cross Keys was established and Archie after the owners’ son. We hope our customers enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
The owners Debby and Brian said; “This was an initial low key idea which naturally evolved in to a real community event and resulted in the village having true ownership of the product. They certainly got it right as we have never sold so much Cask Ale as Archies Amber. Now provenance is as important in drink as it is in food, so we are delighted and very proud to be able to say that Archie’s Amber truly is a local beer.”

[cask at the Holyrood 9A, Edinburgh] Pours deep russet chestnut with a thin, white head. Aroma is grassy, slightly bitter and with some faint stone fruit element. Quite caramelly on the flavour, some toffee sweetness before a mild, grassy bitterness arrives. Finish is pretty bitter. Decent stuff [29032013]

Cask @ Southern, Edinburgh 191212

Amber, clear, thin white head

Aroma of caramel malts, creamy soft toffee malts

Taste of caramel toffee malts, cereal malts, touch of honey like on Sugar Puffs, hint of puffed candy, more malty than hoppy

Palate - thinnish body, oily texture. Fairly sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, a little dry. Tail of toasted caramel.

Overall - Quite a sweet bitter, nice malts in here (there are 5 in here). Certainly would have this again if I saw it
