Drake (13954) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 21, 2008
Bottle shared by The_Beer_God. Thanks! Cloudy chocolate brown color with a medium sized head that dissipates quickly. Sour funky aroma with notes of chocolate covered cherries, bourbon and nuts. Sour taste full of funk and some chocolate and nuttiness. Effervescence present but soft. This is very nice.

Courtesy of The_Beer_God. Clear dark brown body with a small creamy white head. Chocolate, spicy, earthy aromas. Light sour, molassas, roasted malts, and light chocolate. Medium light body with moderately high carbonation.

Bottle sampled at Bier Circus. Pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a thin light brown head. Interesting aroma of chocolate, leather and tart, cherry-like fruityness. Very good flavor of leather and chocolate, again, tart, cherry-like fruityness is present and some acidity. The body is light while the texture is very vinous and the carbonation is moderate. The beer feels a bit old, but it’s still in pretty good shape.

bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - NOV 1, 2007
(750ml Bottle) Pours a cloudy amber-brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of mustiness, lemon, funkiness, cork, clove, and caramel. Flavor of citric sourness, coriander, clove, some dried berries, and pepper with a dry finish.

Dirty brown-orange body topped by an initially large tan head. Aggressive spicy nose (cloves, nutmeg, mint) along with a vinegary aroma. Something’s wrong... Infection! Infection! Acidic vinegar taste and a light ferrous oxidation is the first thing I noticed. That’s unfortunate cause when focussing and doing selective tasting I could feel the wicked funky yeast, eccentric spiciness, dry woody malts, earthy notes, etc.. The infection was light enough to avoid a drain poor but strong enough to make it hard to feel what the beer was really supposed to taste like. We all know that there’s always a remote chance to get infected bottles from Fantôme but they make such great beers that we all keep taking chances. Unfortunately I bought this one from Beer Circus in Brussels and it was rather pricey. I ended-up as disappointed as the day I learned Santa wasn’t real (I felt like I had wasted 25 years of my life).

Well preserved by jeffc666, and thanks of course! Loud pop and a super clear pour with nice carbonation, the color and presentation here was perfect. The aroma was sour cherries and red licorice an a little alcohol. A little like Black Ghost but not as intense. Flavors were iron, leather, pepper and cherries. The whole thing was very dry in the clear pour. Nice sipping. The dregs pour was a little harsh but still a good yeasty addition.

Bouteille Bier Circus, Janvier 2006.

Joeh (2049) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JAN 2, 2006
Bottle from Beers of Europe, with Christmas Lunch. Pours a dark, murky brown, slight head. Aroma is mostly fruit with a touch of sourness and a little spice. To taste this is medium bodied, very fruity, yeasty and tart with some spice. It’s pretty good, not 90 percentile stuff though, another Fantome that I expected more out of.
