Muddy dark brown w/ frothy, light brown foam. Roasty, yeasty, malty aroma that is also somewhat musty, spicy, & woody. Medium-full, mildly acidic feel. Yeasty, malty, spicy flavour w/ a hint of tartness. Very peppery finish. mds (2250) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2005
bottle. dark brown colour, off-white head. smally fizzy head. cheese, dusty hops, and a little bit of acidic sourness in the aroma. big malty body. flavourful. cool stuff from fantôme, I look forward to trying some others. rudolf (2360) - Buffalo, New York, USA - APR 3, 2005
Thanks to Tim for this one. Dark with reddish light filtering through. Funky sour lemon candy. Meaty? Rich malt, sour meat, funk, alcohol. Sweet barley molasses finish. I have no idea what is going on here.. and I like it steview (1037) - Petaluma, California, USA - MAR 30, 2005
trappist / immediately when i pop the cork i can smell pineapple, sugary pears, and wheat. the pour sounds like cola, but what’s left is a thick and dark brown body with no highlight. the head is super tight, big, and sparkly; it diminishes slowly in a rocky, soapy fashion. mmm. good beer. this reminds me of a brown, but with a belgian twist--it’s from belgium, durr! think brown, but with elements of age and a little bit of a geuze. in time, the aroma and flavor becomes more and more complex, warmer, but still enjoyable. UPDATE: and it’s warm... it’s more like a sugary, woody geuze/brown. Hairofthedog (419) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 29, 2005
This beer poured a cloudy brown color w/ thin head and lacing. The aroma had dark fruit sweetness, slight citrus, flowers, and nicely fruity. The flavor had dark fruit, citrus, and pears. The mouthfeel was light and creamy.

Deep amber to brown body. Creamy, brown head with a good lace. Aroma of orange, hops, esters, wood, ... Moderately sweet, lightly bitter estery initial flavour. Lightly bitter, lightly sweet finish. Fruity flavour. Quite nice old beer, but misses some guts to go into hops or sweetness, the flavour keeps on waiting to make a decision and makes none afterall (but could be due to age). Anyway, nice, but could be better.
The color of a stout (almost black and opague), but with a less dense head. Malt, licorice, nutmeg and pepper in both aroma and flavor. Some sweetness, but that is overpowered by the spicy character of this beer. Reasonable balance, but too spicy for my likes. MiP (15920) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - MAR 14, 2005
Strong liquorice aroma. Cloudy, almost black colour. Aroma is mostly sour with a hint of liquorice. Emil (6065) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 9, 2005
