A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Bottle @ home. Finale secco, luppolato.

Typical (of Fantome beers) hazy light orange color with huge rocky head. In the nose, some light citrus notes, maybe green chili and strong yeast. Flavor is banyrard funky, peppery, semi-sweet. I did not notice cocoa or chilis? Medium body with natural carbonation.

Frothy offwhite virtually none head. Virtually none lacing. Mostly diminishing. Flat thick dark brownish-amber body. Aroma: light malty, caramel, citrus orange and lemon, moderate yeasty. Initial flavor: moderate sweet acidic. Final flavor: light sweet moderate acidic light bitter; long duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation and light astringent and alcoholic finish. dulçor maltado permeado por acidez tradicional de saison. Cacau bem presente no final. 110 s

750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988 for the damn book. What the hell did I do to you? The pour is a dark orange color with a thicker white head that falls to a thick bubbly ring leaving a bit of lace. The aroma is not terrible. There is a strong Belgian candy and a light chocolate to go with a lingering pepper on the back end. It’s interesting in the complexity, but it’s not overly great at all. The flavor is lacking in everything other than the Belgian yeast. There is a candied yeast and a hint of pepper on the finish, but the chocolate isn’t anywhere to be found. This is bland all around. The mouth feel is a little thicker and almost has no carbonation. The aftertaste is lingeringly yeasty with a touch of heat. This is not a great beer at all.

Bottle shared with koleminer20 for the book, because I called his bluff. Aroma is fruity, tropical fruit, dusty barnyard, some peppers, dry, banana, clove. Appearance is amber, white head, hazy. Taste is fruity, dry, barnyard, robust yeast, booze, not much pepper, no detectable cocoa, not good. Mouthfeel is medium body, little to no carbonation, metallic dry barnyard aftertaste. Overall, it isn’t good.

Fantome through and through with more questions than answers. Rustic hay, wet straw, clay, touch of sulphuric low tide, coffee husk, medicinal herbs and a peppery yeast ester that rides the bitterness. Lighter and more refreshing than expected but still lots of awkward moments as well !

Pours a brown body with a none existent head. Very faint aroma. Sour and funky taste with a rather strange warm feel. More strange than interesting.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Kvadrat enjoyed at Aaserøy. Pours hazy nut brown with a small off white creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, chewy malts and yeast. Taste is light sweet yeasty, weak acidic peppers, weak chocolate in the finish, more weak chili, but overall a OK beer.
