A very dark and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer, at a whopping 10% alc. by volume. Reportedly spiced with honey, caramel, coriander, black pepper, and other secret ingredients. The alcohol content probably goes a long way toward explaining that very warm and satisfied feeling one finds on the very first sip. A rich, dark-flavored beer with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain. The wild yeast sourness also adds to its welcoming character.

Bottle from Geers, Gent - BE. Color: dark amber beer with no carbonation and no foam. Smell: anise and licorice domination. Caramel malt notes. Taste: medium body and quiet easy drinkable for 10 ABV. Good attenuation and with caramel sweet malt and candy notes. Anise and licorice. Aftertaste: good caramel notes. And spicy finish. Perfect X-Mas beer.

Brown color with tan head. Aroma is very spicy, peppery, malty. Taste is spruces, peppery, spiciness. Finish is very dry. A real christmas ale, but damn, so much spices. Not balanced enough. A bit underwhelming. Dark Saisons are not my favourite.

Bottle. An incredibly bitter Christmas Belgian. Quite spicy and strong, but not so balanced. Too much pepper, for example. I do not taste the saison at all.

Bottle sampled at Essen Winterbier festival 2015. Appears cloudy brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of veggies, yeast, caramel, toffee and overripe dark fruit. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.

750ml Bottle - Dark brown with a foamy head. Ginger, cinnamon and caramel in the aroma. Fruity, tangy and spicy taste with raisins, sultanas, caramel, ginger and cinnamon. The finish leaves some tingly sensations on the tongue.

From cervezasespeciales. In Teku glass. Watching Sons of Anarchy 1x04. Smooth, a bit acidic. Bad smell. Better in taste. I could finish it without much trouble, but Im not sure if I like it. Not much wintery. Not worth its high price

75cl bottle. Hazy deep amber colour with a thin off-white head. Fruits, yeast and funk in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is sweet at front with fruity notes and a dry yeast finish. Overall, very good beer.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2016 75cl bottle served in a tulip. Pours a clear dark brown with hints of garnet and a frothy off white head with localized spots of carbonation. Not much in the aroma other than Belgian yeastiness and fruitcake notes. Taste is very complex with dried fruits, sweet candy and a quit harsh pine bitterness. A slight amount of acidity but only adds to the complexity and complements the medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Didn’t hold much hope for this as a winter saison but the piney notes (unsure whether these are from the spruce needles listed on the label or from some choice hops however,) balance the cake-like notes and the lack of estery, yeastiness is a welcome change. Hides the ABV remarkably well and really is quite a wintery taste. Recommended.
