Enormous thanks to Savvy1982 for the sample at RBSG! Pours a very hazy yellow with a very small head. The aroma is funky with cedar and tobacco with some lemon rind and some amazing earthiness. The flavor is cigar wrapper leaf with a mild sourness and plenty of spicy herbal and earthy notes. This beer was made for me almost perfection in a glass. Bottle shared by Savvy1982 at the 2010 RBSG Grand Tasting. Poured a very cloudy amber gold with a light brown head that lasted. Aroma was very funky with barnyard and menthol coming out. There was some nice underlying floral and sour fruit notes as well. Bright gold with very little head. Sour, puckery, tart nose. Taste is very dry, tart, still fresh. Unlike any of the Fantome beers I’ve had-much more sour than the saisons from Fantome. UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Ruddy brown body. One finger off-white head. Quickly receded leaving a bit of sheet like lacing at first, but eventually leaving very little behind.
S: Earthy. Caramel, a little brown sugar, the slightest bit of brown sugar, mushroom, earthy hops and just the slightest bit of sour cherries. Sharp up front but becomes muted fairly quickly.
T: Like the nose this is very earthy. I think the best way to describe this saison is that it has all the characteristics of a good steak (without the meat taste). Mushroom, browned butter, and that earthy flavor from the outside of the steak. Not particularly funky. The hints of sour cherries in the nose are no longer present.
M: Smooth, medium bodied brew with a nice gentle (but not insufficient) carbonation. Refreshing in a savory kind of way.
O: I don’t know how frequently I’d be in the mood for this saison (unlike the regular saison which I could drink everyday), but I have to admit I really enjoyed this one. This is a fairly old beer at this point... many thanks to stowehop

A- Body is a slightly hazy translucent murky tarnished gold hue. Pours with a big foamy white head that eventually fades almost completely. Cloudiness is thick and dynamic.
S- A ton of vinegar is upfront. Underneath this is grain, some funk, must, caramel, and a slight floral hoppiness.
T- Taste is much like the nose and its hard to get past the vinegar-though it is not extreme (like in Duchesse). Beneath this is apples and pears upfront with a spicy accent. A hint of hops come through for the finish but is masked by a vinegar tartness. Some funk lingers.
P- Nice full carbonation and a thick yeasty body. Pretty smooth.
O- Decent beer overall but a little bit too much vinegar for me. The complexity behind it isn’t really enough to make up for it either. ABV is undetectable.

75cl bottle, at least five years old. Large off-white head atop murky apple juice body, a light layer of dead yeast on the bottom of the glass. Aroma is medium sweet, lemon/tart, some funk, straw/grass, musty. Taste is medium sweet, straw, some funk/barnyard, light lemon. Effervescent light-medium body.
