10th rating. Many thanks to FlacoAlto for pouring this at RBWG 2011. Pours a hazy amber color with a trim beige head. Smells of lavender and honey. Tastes of iced tea, lemon rind, and pureed dandelions. Heavenly.
750 ml bottle (18 of 20) generously shared by Sebastian at RBWG 2011 from notes. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium foamy white head. The aroma has some of the expected earthy funk that Fantome brings to the table as well as herbal dandelion, citrus, apple juice, spices, light cocoa and floral notes. The flavor is very drinkable, pale malt with a touch of caramel sweetness, herbal, some cocoa, lemon citrus that has lower acidity and a mild tart character. Hints of apple, mild spices, floral, with the expected earthiness. Medium-bodied and decently carbonated. Pours orange. Head is fluffy and white. Nose is classic musty Fantôme. Sweet malt, and spicy?, fruity complex nose. Flavor similar but really really tart but not sour. Wow so tart and creamy feel. The beer has a darkish brown / concentrated amber color that is topped by an amber head. The nose has an oxidized, nutty note to it that leans towards sherry, and this is joined by some dark fruit notes, and, ah there it is, a grassy, green pepper herbaceous character that has got to be the dandelions. There is also some malt character that provides some toasted malt aromatics that are noticeable. The nose is so influenced by the dandelions, it is almost woody even, some tobacco hints, and it has quite a dried grassy like character (though this last has more of a green edge to it than straight grass does though).
The beer is not as sweet as I was expecting, but it has some sweetness to it that is tempered by the nutty, sherry like oxidation. This has quite a big dandelion grassiness and herbaceous quality to it in the finish that lingers on the tongue for quite some time. There is some tartness to this beer that intermingles with the dandelion notes. An earthy apple note combines with the fruit character from the oxidation character. A toasted grain character in the finish almost has a dusty cocoa character to it. The dandelion even adds an astringency and bitterness that is almost hop like, but it is greener and more raw in character. Actually this is quite astringent, especially as it warms up. The initial sweetness really tempers down as the beer warms up as well, and the toasted grain and herbal notes start to take over.
This is quite nice, I am really surprised by how noticeable the dandelions still are in both the nose and in the flavor. This is very different than I expected; lots of toasted malt notes melds well with the nutty oxidation and the herbal dandelion character, as well as with a soft spice character.

RBWG from FlacoAlto. An honor to be able to taste such a rare gem. Murky brownish color. Yeast, light toffee, spices and lightly funky aroma. Flavor follows suit. Yeast, light fruit, spice. Taste the rareness.

Flavor is lightly sweetened toasted malt, esters, with some light herbal spice and a hint of yeast. Has a slight tart finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Light to medium body. Bottle-huge thanks to FlacoAlto for sharing what could be the most rare beer of all time! however, im not going to rate this beer on its rareness, im going to rate it as it is a beer. dark copper hue with a small fizzy white head. dark fruits on tne nose-plums, brown sugar. lots of black pepper on the flavors with a long sweet finish. really not all that complex of a beer but given its age, im sure i needed a bigger sample than what i had. however, i can say i had this beer!
