Bottle from Markgrafen, Bamberg
Dark chestnut color, clean; generous, compact head. Aroma of caramel, paper, cereals, light vanilla (not impressive). Correct body; the mild flavor of dark caramel is dry and quite poor; the bitterness is low and some comes from the roasted malt. The final is empty from any emotion. Boring.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit geringer aber schönen Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht röstmalzig, Karamell, minimal würzig. Geschmack angenehm röstmalzig, würzig, gering schokoladig.

Bottle from the brewery. Clear amber beer with a decent beige head. Sourish salty aroma, bready, hop, caramel. Malty caramel flavor, grassy, grainy, cereal, bready, hay notes. Flavor is a lot better than the aroma.

500ml bottle from Ealing BF 2007. Russet colour with disappearing off white head. Some smokey toffee aroma, bit of rubber. Smokey rubber mid dark beer. Less smokey than Schlenkerla marzen, but smooth, more toffeeish, better mouthfeel. Smoke on finish is good. Very good smooth, deep marzen.

Copper brown color, small off-white head. Grassy hoppy aroma. Acidic flavor, woody hoppy and malty. Medium-bodied. Strange dunkel ...

Bright copper with a moderate, even foam. Relatively weak aroma is a bit toasty, grainy. Slightly watery, minor diacetyl, and light toastiness. Finishes kind of quick. It’s thin, but there’s enough dark malt complexity to make is passable.
