Bottle at the brewery.
To speak the truth, a rather uninteresting unfiltered dunkel, when coming from a bottle after the lager or pils here. Medium dark, very little malt taste and almost no sweetness. A good bit of hops. I was already past prime tasting ability by this time, but it was a significant letdown after the lager. Not bad, but lacking most of what I expect in a darker beer. On tap at Fässla in Bamberg. Beautiful, red-brow with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of caramel and light citrus. The flavour has sweetness, notes of malt and caramel followed by a "quiet" phase before some long lasting grapefruit turns up. IMO at bit monotone and off balance. deanso (10150) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - DEC 10, 2010

decent head. Amber colour. A decent beer.
My 300th review :-) JorisPPattyn (10026) - Ursel, BELGIUM - SEP 20, 2005
Orange tinted light brown beer, small white head, fast gone, leaving faint lace. Sweet, liquorice-like nose, faintly nutty. Sweet, again nutty and bready flavours. Sweet, but not sugary, more milke or bread (malt) sugar, fading very slowly. Light bodied, but there is really some malt beefing up the MF. Good session beer, sweet but as it is not cloying it goes down well. MoritzF (9968) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - AUG 4, 2006
(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a small creamy off-white layer. Slightly sweet and toasted malt aroma with hints of alcohol. Light sweet flavour, toast-malty, slightly bready, crusty taste with a tinge of vegetables; medium to light bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel; bittersweet slim finish. Pretty drinkable but not to be overrated.

-Frothy foam and clear reddish-brown hues adopt an icea tea look after but a few minutes.
-Like their Pils, this has an aqueous, überclean feel, which is ridiculously drinkable.
-Toffee and roastiness present simple ideas to the flavor spectrum.
-Charred meats subtly suggest depth in the nose.
-Flaky roasted malt bitterness rises in the back.
-The tiny bubbling and lean body are too slippery for my tastes.
-Everything’s so timid and watery, this is ultimately boring and appears to be brewed for the masses.

bottle, thanks to pivnizub! Clear chestnut colour, off-white head. Malty base with some nuts, also hints of caramel and dried fruit. blipp (9374) - La Mesa, California, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Grainy sweetness, light earthy notes. Bland and watery. Not great. 3fourths (9349) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 20, 2009
clear dark chestnut brown body with a patchy, large-bubbled tan head. sweetened roasted chestnuts in the nose, sticky almond, toasted cereal grains... excellent aroma. up front there’s a bit of cola resemblance, but more nuts, caramel, baked bread, dried stone fruit and sweet tobacco to make up for it. body is good but not great - no strong structure, no sharp crispness, but it’s still sound and drinkable. daniele (9219) - ITALY - MAY 7, 2009
