Dark amber color - cloudy with a thin crusty head. Aroma of alcohol & caramel. Flavor is thick with caramel, chewy sweet, and notes of alcohol and some spice. Thick body that finishes dry. Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - JUN 24, 2005
Rich amber color with a thin head. Aromas of fruit and caramel. Taste is dominated by candi sugar, grape and funky cheese. Lively mouthfeel and super sweet. Malakin (470) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 29, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2006 Lots of interesting aroma and flavour in this one. There is a bit of tinnyness in the flavour which detracts from it’s overall rating but it’s good stuff.

It’s mellowed out a bit but that faint tinnyness is still there. Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 12, 2005
Ruby and mahogany with filmy white head and spotty lace. Vegetables and herb aromas. Doughy malts with some spicy and bitter hops. Bitter flavors with some caramel malts. Sweet fruits and earthy notes. Bitter, fruity finish with a tangy and spicy palate throughout. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - MAR 9, 2005

Amber color, nice head, light lacing. Nose of earthy malts, very light and refined with some light hoppy fruitiness, excellent. The flavor is vegetal & earthy with some gummy bear sweetness and light sherry aged qualities. Finishes tangy & sweet. Very nice barleywine.
Amber body with an off white head. Aroma is strong with caramel, winey, grape and slightly hoppy. The wine barrels from the okanagan give this a malty red wine taste like the red wines of the okanagan, thinner in body but nicely balanced with berry and plum flavour. Alcohol is hardly noticeable until teh very end. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - MAR 7, 2005
From the bottle this brew pours a deep honey/amber with a fast falling off-white head. Honey and caramel hints throughout the sweet earthy malt body stand up well against the big hop balanced finish. This barleywine had really nice fruit tones that showed from the malts when it was warm, very smooth for 12 percent. MullMan (1099) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAR 1, 2005
amber golden color, fairly clear. nice creamy tan head. surprisingly hoppy nose. faint vinuous notes. carbonation is fizzy, flavor is white grape, strawberry, and hoppy. very light port warmth in the finish and aftertaste. unbelievably well hidden alcohol. thanks egajdzis! Bottle: Clear orange-copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma: leather, cheese?, earth, alcohol soaked malt, grapes. Flavor: vanilla, alcohol, sugar-covered hops, berries, malt, and a meaty wood - similar to a red wine. The barrel aging adds to the flavor rather than take it over with burbon notes like too many others. jeffin7 (613) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - MAR 1, 2005
Pours a clear amber. Aroma is a mild but somewhat odd earth and leather mixture. Flavor (a 180 from the aroma) was like sugar coated cascade hops. Sweet malt and citrusy hops. I had no idea this was 12% hides the alcohol very well.
