4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Oh man, that’s good. Chocolate, coffee and vanilla hit you first and then the chiles creep in in both taste and heat. Best variation I’ve had of this stout for sure. Good dude, good idea, good beer. Keep it going, Fate!
At the brewery. A - incredibly beautiful appearance. Pours an opaque black with a creamy, slightly dark espresso colored head with amazing lacing. A must see in person to appreciate. S - rich rich chocolate, and whipped cream at first. Toasted malts and grains, marshmallows, graham crackers - a s'more basically - delicious vanilla ice cream, and a slight sharp bite from the chillies. M - heavy sweet and oily body with a medium spicy palate. Good carbonation. T - vanilla bean and chocolate to start. Cream comes in next followed a strong middle that mostly exhibits the chillies. The spiciness builds throughout the taste and slowly subsides a ways down the road. Good build up and cool down. Alcohol comes through in the middle as well. Ending is somewhat overwhelmed by the ancho chillies, but not necessarily in a bad way. Some hop notes in the end as well. dcschiller (2211) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - DEC 31, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 On nitro. Dumb name for a beer, lol. Actually, Its pretty cool that they nicknamed the beer. I walked into the pub at open on NYE as I hear two servers calling the beer the "Schiller" stout. I thought they were talking about the collaboration Fate did with Mother Road so it made no sense to me why they were using my name. Then it hit me. There’s chili in this particular variant (ancho) and it all made sense. I’ve been a big proponent of Adam’s use of chili in his beers from the beginning, asking him to make beers even spicier than before. So...
The beer pours near black with a fluffy espresso head. Aroma has great coffee, chocolate and chili meat notes along with a hint of smoke. Taste is sweet with a bit of roastiness. The finish is long and dries the palate. I love the building heat on this. Its not over the top, but its matches with the other ingredients well. Another fantastic beer! On nitro. Nearly black pour, creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and vanilla. Taste is chili pepper, chocolate, vanilla and creamy goodness. Phenomenal flavor! Love it. daknole (11048) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - DEC 31, 2013
Yes! Black with a nice nitro head. Chocolate, vanilla, hints of brownies, chili peppers, medium heat and loads of flavor.
