Dark brown pour with small beige head. Aroma is totally dominated by smoke, faint malts showing through. Taste of roasted malts, slight chocolate, faint vanilla and just the right amount of smokiness. After smelling this I thought it was going to taste way to smoky for my liking but it was just perfect, good job, good beer! malrubius (2896) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - NOV 26, 2013
On tap at brewpub. Porter-colored with flat head and lace. Very smoky woody aroma with roasted chocolate and subdued fruit. Smokey woody roasted chocolate with mild fruity sweetness. Medium woody smokey hop bitterness very dry lingering woody smokey finish. Really bold and fucking excellent. Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - NOV 9, 2013
On tap: The aroma is moderate-heavy smoke with a hint of molasses. It’s a dark brown with some orange transparency and a small khaki head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of molasses and sugary sweet chocolate. The finish has moderate smoked meat and a touch of pine. It’s light-medium bodied with a somewhat thin mouthfeel. 32oz swing top growler pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports a nice looking dark tan head of foam that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The aroma offers up nice bacony smoke, a mild dark roasted maltiness, a dash of chocolate malts and then some malt sweetness. Nice. The taste is full and rich and deep with flavor coming from malts, some dark roasted malts, smooth smoky dry bacon on some alderwood and sprinkled with shards of dark chocolate. It picks up additional notes of spicy black licorice and some vague bitter hops. If you’re in the mood for a smoked porter this rich example will do the trick. Nice stuff indeed.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aromas of....well, you guessed it...smoke. Also has some mild roast to the nose. Flavors of...well, you guessed it...smoke, roast, and just a slight forest taste. Not my favorite style. BOLTZ7555 (3027) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - OCT 5, 2013
Nearly onyx pour with mahogany edges and a tightly packed latte foam. Nose of dark Godiva chocolate, brownie batter, charred marshmallows, ash, smoke, and vanilla. Flavor shows similar qualities. Balanced cocoa, Nestle Quik, toasted oats, burnt caramel, and campfire. Really well constructed. Truly enjoyed this one! Another winner by Fate! rickyleepotts (100) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - FEB 14, 2013
A lot of breweries make a smoked porter... but I have not found one that is as good as the one at Fate Brewing Company. They use some ridiculous wood to smoke this beer, and it smells AND tastes like you are puffing on a cigar. Granted, that is a unique flavor and one that takes some getting used to. But imagine drinking a Highland single malt. Those are smooth, and easy to drink. But then imagine drinking an Islay single malt. Unless your palate is used to that flavor, you would spit it out and think it was gross. Same thing with a smoked porter. It takes a certain palate to appreciate a smokey flavor in a beer. Stone makes a smoked porter, but the Fate blows the Stone out of the water! Well done, Fate! savnac (2391) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JAN 25, 2013
Draft @ Fate. Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of smoked wood, chocolate, roasted malt and some vanilla. Flavor is rich chocolate, ashy wood and some caramel. Medium to full body with a smooth feel. Very nice smoked porter, rich and smoky. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 21, 2013
On draught at Fate. I’m going to be the dissenting voice on this. Pours near black and has massive amounts of savory smoke. The taste follows suit with more smoke and then more. I really look forward to the next time I smoke a brisket because this is the beer I’ll go with. If you don’t like smoke, you won’t like this. This beer is aggressive.
