Dark brown pour with a thin head. Aroma is caramel and light wood. Lightly sweet; could use more bitter.
Pint at the Faust Hotel, really enjoyed this alt. Pours light amber with a good malt body. AirForceHops (7243) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 2, 2015
Draft at the source. Dark brown ruby like color. Aroma has light toasted nuts, coffee like hints, mild brown sugar. kidmartinek (5000) - austin, Texas, USA - AUG 23, 2014
The flavor is light chocolate and roast upfront with a molasses/ brown sugar backbone. Some mild astringent coffee hints in the back end give it the needed balance. Texture was mildly sticky with sugary malt. Easily the best beer in the sampler.
Very dark brown. Small, dirty white head. Very vienna malty nose, almost coffee. Malty taste. Some malty sweetness. Thin body. Fizzy bite on the finish. Travlr (24897) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 10, 2014
Draft at the source. Very dark brown color, thick beige head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of chocolate and burnt caramel. Taste is bitter cocoa, espresso. Nice. Beerenberger (1605) - Fischer, Texas, USA - JAN 4, 2014
Aroma is malt forward. Pours a dark brow with a rapidly disappearing tan head and moderate lacing. The taste is malt and bandaids, with a bitter finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, disappointing.

Dark brown with an off-white head. The aroma is heavy on the chocolate with not too much else going on. The flavor is a mix of chocolate, light roasted malt and some light smoke. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. jkwalking05 (4740) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 28, 2013
On tap at the brewpub 7/7/12 - Deep brown almost black in color with a small beige head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, light chocolate. Tast is of toast, nuts, roasted malts, and coffee. After drinking the beer which was NOT a classic example of an Altbier, I decided to check out the taps to make sure the waitress was not confusing what was on tap. But alas the tap handle read "Alt" as clear as day. Seems the Brewer needs a lesson on Alts...or maybe they just shoved it into a style category not knowing where to put it? Decent beer, just not an Altbier. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Aged 2 years (2011 vintage): It’s crazy how great this is at 2 years old... This black alt has a medium brown head and is nutty and very complex, much more so than fresh. It has a sweet, but not roasted character, making for an overall full-flavored and tasty, smooth, well-rounded and balanced alt that’s wickedly respectable. So nice! A hint of roasted grains comes out in the finish, but its so faint that it only adds to the complexity. SudsMcDuff (8429) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - FEB 16, 2012
